Job Summary:

The Administrative Manager provides critical administrative leadership and support to advance program goals and objectives for the UW-Madison Writing Center, Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC), and the Writing Fellows program.

Responsibilities include:
--Developing, coordinating, and managing administrative policies and procedures in support of the mission of the Writing Center, Writing Across the Curriculum, and the Writing Fellows program.
--Assisting with recruitment, hiring, training, and support of the Writing Center's undergraduate receptionists
--Assisting with the recruitment, hiring, training, and support of the Writing Center's graduate teaching assistants
--Coordinating and managing the scheduling of Writing Center instructors across in-person and online modalities
--Coordinating and managing WCONLINE, the Writing Center's online scheduling and tutoring platform
--Establishing and growing relationships with advisors, program coordinators, staff, and faculty across campus to ensure that Writing Center offerings are collaborative and aligned with students' writing needs and goals
--Identifying, facilitating, and supporting opportunities for Writing Center and WAC partnership and collaboration with other campus and community programs
--Participating in campus-wide events, workshops, and trainings to network on behalf of the Writing Center and to bring knowledge from other parts of campus to the Writing Center's programs
--Proposing, coordinating, and piloting writing events for undergraduate and graduate students
--Developing and coordinating all Writing Center, WAC, and Writing Fellows communications and marketing, including social media programming, newsletters, and other promotional materials
--Managing the Writing Center and WAC websites, including their overall structure and design as well as the creation of new pages and the revision of existing ones
--In partnership with English Department Leadership and L&S Administrative Regional Team (ART), administering budget for the Writing Center, Writing Fellows, and WAC programs, including the Madison Writing Assistance program (the community outreach arm of the Writing Center)
--Assisting with the design, editing, and publication of WAC newsletters and the WAC Pressbook
--In partnership with English Department Leadership and L&S Administrative Regional Team (ART), procuring supplies and maintaining equipment for the Writing Center, WAC, and the Writing Fellows program


Responsibilities:
Manages a program and/or programmatic activities. Initiates, develops, and implements operational services that support a defined project, program, work unit, or function to advance program goals and objectives. May supervise staff and/or approve unit expenditures.

  • 20% Plans, implements, executes, and evaluates existing strategies and objectives for a program and makes recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancement
  • 20% Identifies workflow needs, contributes to the development of strategic and operational solutions, allocates resources, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
  • 20% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • 20% Schedules logistics and secures resources for program activities across multiple work units to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures, and specifications
  • 5% Leads the development and preparation of periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agencies
  • 10% May assist in the development and monitoring of the unit or program budget and approve unit expenditures
  • 5% Contributes to the preparation of proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors

Qualifications:

This position requires high-level administrative experience in program areas where there is ongoing planning and planning implementation. The Administrative Manager must be able to work effectively with career staff, teaching assistants, receptionists, students, faculty, staff, and cross-campus partners; have knowledge of and experience with budgeting principles; and have knowledge of and experience with managing communications and marketing, including social media and websites.

Full Time: 100%

This position will require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $56,112 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $56,112 to $77,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
