Job Summary:

The office of Professional Learning and Community Education (PLACE) facilitates engaging and impactful learning that connects the larger community with UW-Madison School of Education research and resources. Using the expertise of faculty, staff, and community stakeholders, PLACE develops and supports learning experiences in the arts, health, and education to enhance the quality of life in Wisconsin and beyond.

The Professional Learning and Community Education (PLACE) Event Manager reports to the Director of Business and Operations and will direct daily operations of events, monitoring the budget and/or supervising event planning staff to ensure that operations run efficiently, economically, and in line with department goals and policy.

We are seeking a candidate who can independently manage events from start to finish, including guiding partners through the conception and design phase, scheduling and running planning meetings, sourcing and contracting with venues and hotels, working with catering and A/V companies, arranging group travel, and managing budgets. The Event Manager will also act as the primary point of contact for attendees leading up to events and be responsible to lead setup and provide onsite support during events. Occasional night and weekend work is required.


Responsibilities:
Directs daily operations of events, including monitoring the budget and/or supervising event planning staff to ensure that operations run efficiently, economically, and in line with department goals and policy.


  • 50% Establishes and executes day-to-day operational functions and goals of events to align with existing strategy
  • 10% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
  • 10% Monitors the budget and approves expenditures
  • 25% Establishes and sustains relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • 5% Travel for site visits and onsite support

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree


Qualifications:

REQUIRED
o 2+ years of experience in in-person and event planning and management
o Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills
o The ability to think critically and strategically to solve problems
o The ability to thrive working in a deadline-driven environment both independently and as part of a team

PREFERRED
o Experience planning for hybrid events
o Experience using registration management software
o Experience using project management software
o Experience following established policies and procedures to purchase goods and services
o An interest or background in the arts, health, and/or education


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
