Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Radiology, part of the prestigious UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, is excited to announce an opening for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist specializing in Positron Emission Tomography (PET). This role is integral to supporting the cutting-edge research, translational, and clinical patient care services at the renowned Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR).

The ideal candidate can anticipate working in an outpatient setting that operates Monday-Friday with no nights/weekends/Holiday/call requirements Specializing in the preparation, administration, and imaging of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic PET imaging procedures. This role focuses on patient care, precise imaging, and radiation safety.

This role demands a combination of technical expertise, exceptional patient care skills, and strict adherence to safety and research protocols to ensure successful outcomes.

Core Responsibilities
1. Patient Preparation:
- Explain procedures to patients, addressing concerns and ensuring understanding.
- Assess patient medical history and confirm compliance with pre-procedure instructions (e.g., fasting or medication restrictions).
- Position patients comfortably for imaging.
2. Radiopharmaceutical Handling:
- Prepare and calculate accurate doses of radiopharmaceuticals according to protocols.
- Administer these materials via injection, ensuring proper safety measures.
3. Imaging Procedures:
- Operate PET scanners to capture images of targeted organs or systems
- Adjust imaging parameters to ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
4. Collaboration with Physicians:
- Work closely with nuclear medicine physicians or radiologists to ensure accurate imaging and reporting.
- Provide technical input and assist in interpreting results when necessary.
5. Patient Monitoring and Care:
- Monitor patients during and after procedures to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Address adverse reactions to radiopharmaceuticals if they occur.
6. Radiation Safety and Compliance:
- Implement radiation safety protocols to protect patients, colleagues, and themselves.
- Adhere to regulatory standards, including proper documentation and disposal of radioactive materials.
7. Administrative Duties:
- Maintain detailed patient records, including dosage, imaging results, and procedure notes.
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with referring physicians.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field


Qualifications:

Required
- Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
- Registered/registry eligible in nuclear medicine: NMTCB-CNMT or ARRT(N)

Preferred
- PET Certification (NMTCB), CT Certification (ARRT)
- At least one year (internship or professional experience) within Nuclear Medicine and/or Positron Emission Technology.

PLEASE NOTE:
Certification by appropriate body (ARRT or NMTCB) Upon Start Date
-Successful completion of appropriate board exam (NMTCB or ARRT(N)) must be completed prior to start date.

BLS/CPR certification within 3 months of Start Date Required
-We can provide training course for this qualification upon hire if necessary

Documentation of Certifications and State Licensing required upon hire. Certifications, appropriate state licensing, and continuing education requirements must be maintained.

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $75,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for hire into the Technologist I title is $75,000 and the starting salary for hire into the Technologist II title is $85,000. Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications.

This position is eligible for a hiring bonus in the amount of $10,000.

Additional Information:

Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles listed in this posting. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

The department will not be able to support a request for a J-1 waiver. If you choose to pursue a waiver and apply for our position, neither the UW nor UWMF will reimburse you for your legal or waiver fees.
