Provide support in the installation, operation and maintenance of computer systems. Position typically addresses a wide variety of applications, hardware, and networks. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Install, maintain and upgrade workstation and peripheral hardware and software.

Job Duty 2 -
Analyze and resolve workstation, application, and server related problems.

Job Duty 3 -
Update desktop software/applications; maintain documentation on installed applications.

Job Duty 4 -
Provide users with assistance in working in specific applications.

Job Duty 5 -
Participate in development of standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

The College of Engineering is seeking a skilled IT Support Engineer that is passionate about innovation in the education industry for a temporary work assignment. This position will play a key role in supporting the research and instruction mission of the College of Engineering. This position will report to the College of Engineering Director of Technology Services and collaborate closely with other IT teams across the College. As part of its duties, this position will help with: Designing, developing, procuring, and managing technology solutions. Primary Responsibilities include the following:

  • Consult with academic and research faculty and administrative leadership; analyze complex needs and requirements for large research groups or instructional labs.
  • Design, develop, test, implement and evaluate functional and technical IT system requirements and specications; provide expert technical advice to research groups.
  • Advanced system administration of systems for multiple research groups, including monitoring and ensuring performance and reliability objectives.
  • Data management and security operation for multiple research groups. Formulate and implement recovery plans including backup; communicates security and data management practices to end users.
  • Operational support of a large and diverse set of set of cyber-infrastructure resources (including desktops, workstations, data acquisition systems, and other computational and data resources).
  • Perform updates to server and desktop software/applications; recommend and implement replacement, consolidation and/or upgrade of computational and data resources.
  • Develop complex scripts or programs to automate monitoring and deployment activities, review source code when appropriate.
  • Recommend hardware and software procurements; manage assets for a School or a large number of research groups.
  • Develop and recommend standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree, Technical Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Up to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of work experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows computers in an Active Directory environment via automaton technologies such as SCCM, MDT or equivalent. Similar experience managing macOS and Linux operating systems with tools such as JAMF Pro, Saltstack or equivalent is a great plus. University experience preferred. Knowledge of DFARS and/or NIST 800-171 compliance is a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills and ability to prioritize requests appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Security-oriented to ensure that endpoint devices operate securely and eciently. Individual should have knowledge of rewall rule, IP space, and zone DNS management.
  • Comfortable provisioning, conguring and maintaining Windows, Linux, and macOS systems, troubleshooting problems, and assisting customers with a variety of support needs. Should be procient with integrating non-Windows systems into Active Directory. Should be able to implement or use automaton tools for the management of endpoint systems. Successful candidate must be able to manage and troubleshoot complex networks. Candidate must be able to process warranty repairs through authorized vendors. The ideal candidate will be able to suggest and implement hardware and software solutions to meet researchers needs.
  • MCSA, MD-100, Windows 10 or equivalent related desktop management certifications are a plus. Linux and/or macOS endpoint management certifications are also a plus.

SKILLS
This job requires knowledge of and skill in the installation and maintenance of information technology hardware and software, requiring a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures. Included are skills in problem solving, decision making, customer service, system documentation and communications.
