About the Job

The Research Integrity and Compliance (RIC) Specialist is a mid-level compliance position responsible for supporting the process to ensure that all research activities conducted at the University of Minnesota adhere to the highest ethical standards and comply with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies. This role involves developing and facilitating training for researchers, conducting audits and investigations for research integrity and compliance matters, and promoting a culture of research integrity.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Research Ethics and Integrity Education (40%)

  • Create educational materials and web pages to promote research ethics and integrity
  • Coordinate the University's Research Ethics Week events and website updates
  • Work with the Office of Research Information Systems (ORIS) to monitor compliance with Responsible Conduct of Research Training through the Research Reporting Center
  • Assist in the development of training and educational opportunities for the research community that support the responsible conduct of research.
  • Create learning opportunities using a variety of delivery methods, such as Canvas, PowerPoint, Zoom, etc.
  • Manage CITI Program intake page, administrative access, and compliance monitoring.
  • Assist with development of training and testing materials for the University Certified Approver Program.

Research Compliance and Misconduct Audits and Investigations (40%)

  • Support the Research Integrity Officer (RIO) and the RIC Director in research misconduct allegations, inquiries, and investigations.
  • Assist with sequestration and analysis of data in research misconduct allegation inquiries and investigations.
  • Facilitate intake and coordination of research compliance and misconduct allegation tracking to ensure the workflow progresses in a timely fashion. This includes creating digital file folders and compiling information as it is provided in the folders so investigators have all of the information necessary to complete reviews.
  • Assist with compiling reports for submission to federal regulatory agencies in cases of research misconduct and non-compliance matters.
  • Prepare agendas and take notes for research compliance and misconduct meetings and interviews.

Research Policy Support (10%)

  • Develop and maintain a tracking system for research policies, including a Google Drive to maintain research policies owned by the Vice President for Research and Innovation.
  • Support RIO Policy organization through maintaining RIO Policies and organizing the folders and files.
  • Assist with organizing files for policy reviews.

General (10%)

  • Provide website support by managing the content and communicating with the RIO Webpaster to maintain regular updates to the RIC Pages.
  • Regularly check and respond to emails in the RIC Program email account.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of regulatory policies from federal agencies regarding the Responsible Conduct of Research Education, Research Misconduct, and Uniform Guidance
  • Other duties as assigned.

Flexible Work Profile
The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and the Research Integrity and Compliance (RIC) Office endorses a "work with flexibility" approach that offers a welcoming and flexible work environment where everyone is inspired to do their best. Work location options include working fully remote, partially remote, or entirely in the office and are based on the work of the position. Some on-site work may be necessary for certain positions, even those designated as fully remote.

This position has been designated as eligible for flexible work profiles 1-3.
Profile 1 is expected to work primarily on-site. Your office will be located in the McNamara Alumni Center. Profile 2 is expected to work on-site more than 50% of the time. Your office will be located in the McNamara Alumni Center. Profile 3 is expected to work remotely more than 50% of the time. Your dedicated office space will be in your remote work location. The RIC Office management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

**This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment, where at least 2-3 days a week are in-person on the Twin Cities East Bank Campus.**

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree plus at least four years of experience in research compliance, research integrity, clinical research, laboratory research, or regulatory affairs or a combination of related education and work experience to equal eight years

Preferred Qualifications

  • MA/MS/MPH or higher in a relevant field, such as the STEM disciplines, law, or ethics.
  • Prior experience in research compliance field, including work with the IRB, IACUC, and/ or IBC
  • Prior experience in research integrity and misconduct reviews

The RIC Program is responsible system-wide for responsible conduct of research, research misconduct, U.S. export controls and economic sanctions, research security, the certified approver program, and research policy management. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $33.66-$38.47 (Annual $70,000-$80,000); depending on education/qualifications/experience
