Georgia-Pacific is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Technical Capability Leader to support the Mechanical maintenance team at the Palatka Mill. The Maintenance Technical Capability Leader will partner with the GP Palatka Paper Mill maintenance leadership team to advance the capability of all hourly employees within the area, implementing and executing a capability development process as well as skills validation and verification to yield positive performance in safety, quality, production, and reliability for the Maintenance department. Responsibilities also include leading the shift maintenance mechanical and electrical team and the maintenance apprenticeship program. This position reports to the Maintenance & Reliability Business Leader and has up to 24 hourly direct reports. Our Team Georgia Pacific's Palatka Mill is located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the Palatka mill employs about 950 people has six paper machines as well as several converting lines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, Brawny, and Sparkle. What You Will Do * Lead and foster a safety culture that values risk identification and personal ownership, through a principle-based approach and foster an environment where the team strives for zero incidents in Environmental, Health and Safety performance. * Lead and mentor hourly employees to apply PBM in ways that are consistent with our Values to improve capability and performance. * Collaborate with the maintenance leadership team to identify and close skill gaps for the maintenance department through training and skills development. Responsibilities also include interfacing with corporate teams as well as third party vendors to provide training to the Palatka maintenance team as well as on the job opportunities for skill development. * Responsible for managing purchase requisitions, closure of purchase orders, and the training budget. * Serve as program director for the Palatka Apprenticeship Program and lead (8) trainees. Responsibilities include administering all program elements including training scheduling, delivery, tracking trainee progress and corrective actions, field training assignments, satisfying NCCER program requirements, and integrating trainees into Central Maintenance shift and daily maintenance teams. * Lead the central maintenance shift team consisting of (8) general mechanics and (8) electricians. Responsibilities include but are not limited to skills development, work assignments, and performance management. * Optimize use of shift maintenance resources to address mill critical needs, including supporting area routine outages to ensure planned maintenance work is completed in the outage window. * Partner with the mill Maintenance Leader to provide leadership, technical support, and direction to the maintenance department responsible for the repair and preventive maintenance across all operating units. * Assist in hiring activities for new maintenance hourly employees, including temporary hires. Responsibilities include onboarding activities, tools and equipment, and partnering with area maintenance supervisors to coordinate temporary and long-term assignments. * Supporting troubleshooting efforts and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for unplanned failures. * Perform GEMBA walks in the areas to improve employee engagement. * Participating in week-end duty coverage on a rotational basis. * Promoting and supporting a transformational culture in maintenance with operations that supports an Ownership Based Work System including knowledge transfer to operating technicians. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) * Five (5) or more years of work experience in mechanical and/or electrical equipment in an industrial environment. * Two (2) years of supervisory/management experience with responsibility for direct reports. * Experience with industrial mechanical and electrical equipment. * Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). * Experience implementing precision maintenance techniques to improve equipment reliability.
