Senior Director, Vision Care Strategy

The Senior Director of Strategy leads the corporate strategy function for the $4B+ Vision Care Franchise, develops long-range objectives/plans for the corporation, drives key initiatives to make data-driven recommendations to the business, and identities internal and external trends that could affect growth and profitability.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Business Planning

  • Lead the annual strategic planning exercise
  • Identify internal and external trends that could affect growth and profitability
  • Manage the Franchise ideation funnel and annual portfolio prioritization efforts (e.g., by pressure-testing business cases and guiding portfolio analytics)
  • Facilitate annual product roadmap exercises
  • Assist the Global Vision Care Franchise GMs in aligning the organization with the strategy, driving change efforts and ensuring the progression of business initiatives
  • Support Global Franchise GMs in assessing strategic projects and oversee analytical evaluation of these projects, including validating key inputs, creating scenarios for the project outcomes and helping to align the recommendation with internal key stakeholders
  • Partner with Global Product Directors to shape/refine product category strategies, ensuring alignment with overarching Franchise objectives
  • Lead key strategic projects, problem-solve with and counsel leaders, and provide guidance to organization around problem structuring, and action planning
  • Develop ELT and Board of Directors level communications
  • Actively participate in and run leadership team monthly meetings, manage agenda and topics for escalation, and ensure publication of minutes/decisions
  • Prepare acquisition proposals, recommend financial and non-financial strategic objectives and alternatives, and implement strategic and operational plans, including organizational structures

Cross-Functional Coordination:

  • Partner with functional leadership (e.g., R&D, MTO, Quality) to prioritize core projects, surface potential or emerging issues, and ensure decisions reflect the long-term interest of the Franchise with a focus on improving margins and service targets
  • Provide as-needed guidance to organization around problem structuring, action planning, and recommendation synthesis
  • Partner with R&D to conduct periodic reviews of project resource requirements and conduct annual portfolio evaluation and prioritization process, ensuring alignment with the Franchise Pipeline Strategy

Requirements

Education: Minimum: B.S. /B.A. in Business, Science, Engineering. Advanced degree such as
MBA, JD, MD highly preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 12 years relevant experience + 8years leading people; preferred 4+ years top-tier
    management consulting experience
  • Leadership: Strong proven leader of businesses, brands and people. Visionary, strategic,
    collaborative and driven
  • Excellent analytical skills (problem structuring and problem solving)
  • Ability to review and analyse and interpret data and make recommendations
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Ability to influence and map knowledge flow within an organization
  • Excellent communication and conceptual synthesis skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across a Global, matrixed company
  • Passionate, positive attitude with proven ability to motivate and cultivate high performing
    teams
  • Outstanding flexibility, adaptability and sense of accountability
