Bilingual Student Support Assistant
Hourly Rate: $15.00
This position is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hour appointment based in Champaign, Illinois.

The bilingual student support assistant is responsible for assisting prospective students and current students with limited English proficiency to utilize college services. The work schedule is dependent upon departmental needs and employee's availability, typically work hours are between 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday. The Bilingual Student Support Assistant is on a schedule established by the Coordinator of International Admissions.

Essential Job Functions:
- Assist communication during each step of the enrollment process including admissions, financial aid, accessibility services, and advising with the appropriate advisors.
- Facilitate communications for students, prospective students, and their families with student services and academic supports staff.
- Provide sight-translation, as applicable, of relevant materials to enhance student communication of educational processes.
- Work with other bilingual resources for translation of student services and academic supports materials, which may include website content. This does not include academic coursework materials.
- Read and follow the Bilingual Employee Confidentiality and Communication Agreement of Parkland College
- Ask clarifying questions of staff if needed.
- Assist with project of identifying and updating information on bilingual college personnel who can assist with facilitating communication with students who have limited English proficiency.
- Following staff guidance and college practices, connect students, prospective students, and their families with community organizations for residency assistance.
- Work with college personnel to ensure translations are appropriate.
- Answer phone calls and greet visitors with supervisory guidance; attempt to respond to inquiries and provide appropriate information; take messages when needed.
- File and retrieve documents, records, and reports.
- Create documents using Microsoft Office applications. Learn other computer programs to assist with data entering.
- Assist with completing forms in accordance with department procedures.
- Create and manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents.
- Provide assistance with website content as needed.
- Operate office equipment, such as copiers, PCs, and/or phone systems.
- Work independently and efficiently on any special projects.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Fluent in at least one non-English language: Spanish, French, or Mandarin.
- Complete fluency testing as required
- Good academic record
- Ability to work inclusively in a diverse setting.
- Maintain confidentiality, be punctual, communicate changes in work schedule in advance.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
