Collaborates closely with technical and analytics team members, the Senior Data Analyst plays a pivotal role in transforming raw data into actionable insights that guide the strategic direction of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. By leveraging a unique combination of leadership, communication, and technical expertise, the analyst excels at transforming complex business questions into compelling 'data storytelling' that drives informed decision-making.

In addition to assessing and preparing data for use by teams building visualizations and dashboards, the Senior Data Analyst champions data quality and governance. This includes performing rigorous data quality analyses, identifying and resolving data inconsistencies, and implementing processes to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and trustworthiness of organizational data. The role embodies a commitment to delivering high-quality insights while fostering a culture of data-driven excellence.

Essential Functions / Responsibility

Data Analysis

  • Create processes, procedures, and specifications to bring data into a common structure
  • Develop data solutions to perform analysis, interpret analysis, and support the development of insights and recommendations for use
  • Provide ad hoc data analysis to identify issues, trends, insights to support the Society's key analytics objectives
  • Prepare and cleanse data for analytics consumption, including manual data loads
  • Profile data from key enterprise systems
  • Analyze patterns and issues resulting from data profiling
  • Lead the effort to continuously define, monitor, and report on metrics to measure data quality
  • Evaluate changes to existing applications as well as new applications for their impact on data quality
  • Ensure all solutions align with the Society's Strategy, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Standards, Technology Roadmap, and Data Strategy
  • Work with the Enterprise Analytics team and other business and technical teams to support the Society's data strategy to improve data quality and trusted analytics

Data Quality Leadership

  • Continuously educate business teams and Business Relationship Managers on data best practices, data quality concepts, and guiding principles
  • Promote a continuous improvement mindset through communication to business partners
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of the data strategy and viewed as an expert in data analysis
  • Partner with the Engineering team, Enterprise Product Owners, Data Stewards, and business stakeholders as it relates to data analytics
  • Champion Society's agile principles by promoting iterative delivery and fostering frequent feedback to enable timely course corrections
  • Simplify and communicate complex data initiatives to ensure understanding across diverse audiences
  • Identify root causes of data issues and assist in prioritizing and communicating effective solutions

Business Analyst

  • Work with the business to understand their applications and data
  • Use influence to advocate decisions to support the Society's data strategy
  • Research issues and challenges to determine both direct and underlying causes of data issues as well as possible solutions
  • Gather requirements, understand technical needs, and clearly define specific needs and priorities
  • Create clear and accurate documentation and reference materials with strong attention to detail
  • Write test plans and perform quality assurance testing as needed

Volunteer Engagement

  • Support local market/office, including but not limited to attending market/office meetings
  • Participate in local market/office events as a participant and/or volunteer

Role Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years' experience in a complex and fast-paced information technology setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Understanding of data warehousing, data lake concepts and design
  • Excellent data analysis skills
  • Demonstrated ability eliciting, documenting, and verifying technical, business, and data requirements/needs with multiple departments and functions
  • Ability to distill and communicate complex concepts to leadership teams, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interpret technical language into business terms
  • Productively and collaboratively work as part of a geographically dispersed Agile team
  • Independent, positive, and proactive approach to problem-solving within a team
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize work and complete tasks within timelines
  • Experience with data governance and data quality frameworks
  • Leadership or mentoring experience guiding junior analysts
  • Experience with integrating and optimizing data across multiple systems or platforms

Technical Competencies

REQUIRED:

  • Excellent SQL skills
  • Highly skilled in data analysis tools (including Excel)

PREFERRED:

  • Dataiku or similar data analytics tool
  • Power BI experience
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python
  • Salesforce, Workday, and/or Talend experience
  • Non-profit experience

Compensation & Benefits Info:

Estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $91,000 - $109,000 based on our average compensation schedule. Final offers will be based on candidategeographic location and consider career experience and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.
