As part of an increasing emphasis on strategic integrated communications, The Office of the Chief Communications Officer (OCCO) is recruiting for a communications Associate to support the Division on Earth and Life Studies (DELS) and the Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences (DEPS). DELS and DEPS are two of seven program units of the National Academies. DELS conducts activities on a range of topics grounded in the natural sciences, including climate and extreme weather, agriculture, environmental health, ecology, natural resource management, geography, and biotechnology. Topics covered in DEPS range from national security and intelligence, computing, information technology, energy and sustainability, and space, aeronautics, physics, and astronomy. While the main focus of your work will be in DELS and DEPS, you may have the opportunity for special projects in any of the other 5 NASEM program units. https://www.nationalacademies.org/about/organization. Under general supervision, the communications associate: *Coordinates internal and external communication activities for projects, programs, events, and related efforts. *Collaborates with staff on communication and dissemination strategies. *Compiles and prepares material for dissemination through the National Academies email marketing and social media channels and on the division's website. *Assists in the development, design, and implementation of outreach and communication projects, using various media such as print, electronic, video, and web-based products. *Produces online products for targeted audiences and the general public. Job has a strong project coordination component, requiring scheduling and tracking of multiple promotional activities across multiple divisional units. This is a professional role, with a dual report structure to the senior communications positions in both DEPS and DELS. It is not primarily a clerical or administrative support role. Job offers opportunities to use independent judgment as needed. Job Description: ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Compensation Range: The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine support equity, fairness, and transparency in our compensation programs. An estimated compensation range for this position is $56,410 - $70,510. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will be based on the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, and work experience, commensurate with compensation of current employees in comparable positions with similar knowledge, skills, and work experience, and subject to budget parameters. Note it is not typical for a candidate to be hired at the higher end of the range. This is a benefits-eligible position. Work Environment: Hybrid Office/Telecommute environment with the ability to work remotely up to 50% of the time, with occasional travel between National Academies' facilities and to off-site meeting/sponsor locations.
