This is a full-time position at the Mass General Brigham - Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research Proteomics Laboratory (Haas Lab), which uses quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics to study the mechanisms underlying the dysregulation of cellular functions in cancer and to identify biomarkers for early cancer detection.
This position is ideal for an exceptionally driven candidate interested in learning and applying methodologies used in mass spectrometry-based proteomics and ranging form sample preparation (including the use of robotic systems), using mass spectrometers, and proteomics data analysis. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects, and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.

As a member of the team, the research technician will:

  • Assist the Investigator and/or other senior lab personnel with the preparation of samples for mass spectrometry-based proteomics.

  • Techniques used will include: mass spectrometry, proteomics data analysis HPLC, cell culture, and cell transfections

  • Have responsibility for ordering common laboratory reagents and general maintenance of the laboratory. Maintain cell lines and plasmids used in experiments.

  • Assist in maintaining information in databases for antibodies, cells, biopsy tissue, and primers.

  • Participate in the upkeep of the lab, perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment (cleans, disassembles, stores, replaces worn parts), and report equipment requiring advanced repair.

  • Organize and accurately maintain written records of experimental procedures and data collection. Data may be represented as graphs, charts, tables, illustrations, slides, and narrative reports. Assist in the preparation of manuscripts resulting from data generated in research projects.

  • It is expected that after a training period, the research technician will perform independent research studies under the guidance of the PI.

  • Participate in and present data at weekly lab meetings and journal clubs.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Must be realistic, objective, measurable, and related to the essential functions of this job.

  • Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Cell Biology is required.

  • A background in coding.

  • Strong work ethic, excellent organization skills, and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, including the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
