Examples of Duties

Job Duties

  • Evaluate, install, test and maintain Commission line of business (LOB) applications.
  • Assist with the maintenance, backup and restoration data applications and databases, including database tuning and availability management.
  • Participate in pre-installation planning and monitor performance of LOB application modifications; evaluate and implement vendor software releases.
  • Provide technical assistance to end users; assist various departments with technology problems/projects.
  • Analyze and resolve software problems and interface with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Assist in design, creation and maintenance of interfaces to LOB applications, including writing programs/routines to interact with Commission LOB applications.
  • Test and debug all new and/or modified programs prior to being placed in production; document all newly written programs.
  • Make recommendations on methods to optimize software/hardware performance;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Programming Team Supervisor, Technology Manager or the Chief Information Officer.

  • Knowledge of computer science; computer hardware and peripheral equipment; functions and capabilities of software systems; high-level language computer programming; computer hardware systems.
  • Knowledge of database theory and design, and technology systems testing procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend an extensive variety of technical material, troubleshoot and define problems, collect data, establish facts, create action plans, and resolve technical issues.
  • Ability to train and assist staff in using hardware and software efficiently.
  • Authors and effectively communicates necessary system documentation including technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and work aids as needed
  • Creates and maintains effective working relationships with a wide diversity of individuals in a variety of circumstances
  • Maintains exemplary communication skills both verbally and in writing on complex technical and non-technical matters.
  • Assists with and participates in project activities as directed by the project manager.
  • Adapts quickly to changes in priorities; prioritizes tasks without direct supervision.
  • Is self-motivated, proactive and attentive to detail.
  • Maintains security and confidentiality of data and information

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of an undergraduate core program in computer science or a related field.
  • Minimum of three to five years prior experience in application support, database/data systems management.
  • Experience with Human Resource Information System (HRIS) or Human Capital Management (HCM) software design, implementation and support .
  • Knowledge of .net, SQL, Java and Java scripting languages; experience with Crystal Reports; SQL Reporting Services; Microsoft-Windows Operating Systems; Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems.
  • Prefer experience with data governance practices, data analytics practices and platforms including Power BI, Content Management Systems (CMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Prefer experience leading HRIS/HCM or ERP software implementation projects
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders at all levels of an organization and in a diversity of disciplines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required.

Unusual Working Conditions

  • The work environment is typically an office setting. Employee may be required to be on-call 24 hours, 7 days a week in order to ensure data systems operation; work involves sitting for prolonged periods of time.
