Position Summary

The Office of Education, Undergraduate Medical Education in the School of
Medicine is seeking a detail-conscious, highly organized Data Analyst with a
proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment to join
their team. The successful candidate will support our Assessment and Learning
(A&L) Office. The person hired for this position must have strong
computer skills, good communication skills, high-level analytical skills,
adaptability and flexibility, and an interest in learning about evaluation
and assessment.

Duties include the following:

  • Design and build summative and formative assessments developed by faculty (including high-stakes block final exams and weekly low-stakes summative exams) in ExamSoft, guiding best assessment practices and analysis of exam content.
  • Analyze the performance of exam items and interpret psychometric data and longitudinal performance of exam items for content with historical data.
  • Create, update, and maintain live relational databases (with data sources in Access and linked tables in Excel) used for tracking medical student exam performance.
  • Design queries using Access tools and SQL.
  • Create and update the grade databases and spreadsheets for Phase I curriculum.
  • Create and generate routine and ad-hoc statistical and analytical reports of medical student exam performance metrics.
  • Provide grades to faculty, and detailed feedback to students will perform SP performance metrics for internal Quality Assurance using normative exam data and Statistical Analysis System (SAS).
  • Responsible for the data collection and analysis of ongoing assessment (grades) data from a variety of sources (ExamSoft, NBME, Access, faculty-submitted spreadsheets).
  • Analyze and interpret statistical outputs for presentation to faculty.
  • Generate specialized queries to provide data analysis and to be used in reporting to faculty, students, and the SOM Curriculum Committee.
  • Manage the collection, calculating, and posting of Phase I and Doctoring grades in One45 from content provided by multiple sources, including faculty (preceptors, block chairs) and staff (curriculum support).
  • Ensure grades are posted ahead of accreditation guidelines and provide timely direction/support for missing deliverables.
  • Provide periodic and emergency back-up for the A&L Data Manager.
  • Assure continuity of services should the Data Manager be unavailable.

Finalists should be prepared to provide official educational transcripts if
selected for hire.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in relational databases such as Microsoft Access (ability to
    create tables, queries, forms, and reports)
  • Experience in critically assessing and synthesizing quantitative
    data
  • Experience in importing, exporting, and managing data within databases
    and spreadsheets
  • Experience in data management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Access and
    PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to express complex/abstract concepts effectively, in oral and
    written formats.


Additional Requirements
Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, occasional weekend and/or evening work may be required, depending on department needs.
