Position Summary:

The UNM Division of Information Technologies is seeking candidates for a Technical Analyst 3 position. The successful candidate will join a high caliber team of professionals in the Information Technologies department on the IT Applications team.

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Analyst 3 to take ownership of maintaining and improving the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The ideal candidate will ensure data accuracy, manage relationships between configuration items (CIs), and support IT Service Management (ITSM) processes.

This position is critical to the effective management and maintenance of the CMDB, which serves as the foundation for ITSM processes and the accuracy of IT infrastructure records. Additionally, this role will enable efficient operations, improve troubleshooting capabilities, and support strategic decision-making within the IT organization.

Job Duties:

  • Manage and maintain the CMDB, ensuring it is accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Define and enforce governance standards for CI creation, modification, and retirement.
  • Ensure the proper relationship mapping between CIs to reflect IT infrastructure and application dependencies.
  • Automate data collection and reconciliation using tools like ServiceNow Discovery, SCCM, or similar.
  • Collaborate with ITSM process owners (e.g., Change, Incident, Problem, and Asset Management) to ensure the CMDB supports their needs.
  • Identify and resolve data discrepancies and integrity issues impacting ITSM processes.
  • Generate reports and dashboards to provide insights into CMDB data and trends.
  • Partner with IT teams, vendors, and business units to define and manage CI requirements.
  • Conduct regular training and awareness sessions to ensure CMDB users adhere to best practices.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for CMDB-related inquiries, changes, and enhancements.
  • Monitor and enhance discovery and data reconciliation processes to improve efficiency.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools and techniques to optimize CMDB management.
  • Stay updated on ITIL best practices and industry trends in configuration management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution and/or experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of discovery tools (e.g.,
    ServiceNow Discovery, SolarWinds, SCCM).
  • Proficiency in data analysis and
    reconciliation using scripts, SQL, or APIs.
  • Familiarity with IT infrastructure
    components, including servers, networks, applications, and cloud services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving
    abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration
    skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize
    in a fast-paced environment.
  • ITIL v4 Foundation certification or higher.
  • Experience in automating CMDB processes.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD
    pipelines.
