About This Role

The Director of Portfolio and Project Governance serves in a management level role, providing supervision, strategic, and operational direction for the enterprise project management team. The Director is responsible for the enterprise wide IT Project Management Office that provides the frameworks, tools, processes, templates and best practices to support successful delivery of IT and cross-functional projects. This position works with university leadership in preparing information for project governance and provide institution-wide vision on technology projects.

Kansas State University's Division of Information Technology is committed to providing excellent IT services to the K-State community in support of the teaching, learning, research, and service missions. They offer a wide range of information technology and communications services. They provide leadership for developing and delivering computing and digital resources to K-State students, faculty and staff. The Division coordinates and manages central IT business services including Enterprise Systems, Portfolio & Project Governance, Infrastructure & Operations, Academic Applications, Information Security, and Academic IT and Research Support.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree and five to 10 years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree (preferred in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field).
  • 5 years in higher education enterprise application development, implementation and support.
  • Experience in higher education project management. Demonstrated experience in establishing processes, controls, and metrics in a Project Management Office.
  • Experience managing multiple enterprise-level, large, complex projects.
  • Ability to relate to diverse community of students, staff, and faculty.
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm, and ability to be innovative and creative.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • Ability to make sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceive the impact and implications of decisions; commit to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
