Student Life Coordinator - Technical
This position is an on-campus, full-time, 12-month appointment based in Champaign, Illinois covered by the Professional Support Staff (PSS) Union with an annual salary of $46,937.06.

The Student Life Technical Coordinator is responsible for organizing, evaluating, and implementing all technical aspects of Student Life activities and events with all functions of the Student Life office, and to support assessment for Student Life activities. This position is also responsible for the supervision of the student-run college newspaper, The Prospectus. Reporting to the Director of Student Life, the Student Life Technical Coordinator will partner with all Student Life staff to provide technical support that complements leadership development and civic/service-learning opportunities for students. The coordinator will have excellent leadership training skills, providing staff and students with regular training opportunities.

Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as campus liaison for the non-academic component of the campus-wide calendaring system. Collaborates with all parts of the college and presents training
- Maintain the College's campus-wide event calendar system by working work closely with Administrative Specialist for Academic Scheduling, Director of Marketing, Vice President of Student Services and Vice President of Academic services to meet the goals established for this component of the 25LIVE calendaring system.
- Develop the Student Life webpage; manage and update Student Life webpages.
- Supervise maintenance of Student Life Calendar of activities and events
- Research, review and recommend to the Director the use of technology to enhance the services to all students.
- Develop evaluation tools and interpret data gathered as part of Student Life support assessment
- Oversee the career closet inventory, intake and distribution processes and organizing and promoting MLK Day of Service
- Coordinate the Student Leadership Academy, monitor student progress, and scholarship distribution.
- Assist with the planning and organization of the New Student Orientation programs; working with Academic and Student Services departments for content updates; manage reports and coordinate communication to ensure completion by all new students.
- Develop and distribute weekly Student Life communications. Assist the Director in communication plans for Student Life
- Serve as manager for the Prospectus providing supervision of its part-time student staff and guidance on business and advertising functions.
- Participate in the training and development of student workers.
- Prepare promotional materials for Student Life activities/events in conjunction with Marketing and Public Relations
- Assist Student Life Director with Scholarship Process for Student Organization, Paul Simon, Student Leadership Academy scholarships. Also coordinate annual Prospectus and Student Government tuition waivers.
- Oversee the design, content, and production of printed materials such as handbooks, newsletters, blogs etc. and video information regarding student leadership and registered student organizations/clubs.
- Serve as Student Services liaison for coordinating community service events and Parkland College sponsored fundraising such as the United Way, AmeriCorp, and Food Bank campaigns. Connect Community Engagement with Student Leadership service-learning opportunities.
- Assist in front-desk and ID station coverage, as well as other Student Life functions to support department.
- Assist in the planning and support of the RISE Scholars program.
- Assist Director of Student Life in the planning, coordination of all events. Assist in commencement exercises, student orientation programs, spring carnival, honors convocation, and welcome back convocation. Attend social programs and rehearsals as required.
- Serve as a chaperone for student leadership conferences and volunteer/service events outside of Parkland College.
- Actively engages in NASPA, ICCJA, and/or related national or local student personal organizations to benchmark best practices in student engagement, newspaper development and orientation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or six (6) years' experience in planning/organizing events for large and diverse audiences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's license, insurability to drive for the College, and be available to travel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to construct publicity timelines and communicate effectively with diverse students, employees, and community members.
- Ability to effectively present information to individuals as well as large groups.
- Experience with updating and managing web page content.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments simultaneously, and to work independently and as part of a team.
- Continuing education or courses, including training on desktop publishing and/or graphic design.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Access, and Excel, with the ability to learn the Parkland information system and new software as technology changes.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment.
