The Dell Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences seeks a board-certified/eligible psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty in outpatient settings at University of Texas Health Austin (UTHA) and in conjunction with Integral Care. This 50/50 split role offers a unique opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered care across two key institutions in Central Texas. We are seeking a physician passionate about working with community partners to develop clinical, educational, and research initiatives that transform how people access and maintain mental health care in Central Texas and beyond. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty of the Department of Psychiatry through the Texas Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program.

About the Position

UTHA is the clinical practice of Dell Medical School and a key hub for delivering innovative, patient-centered care. The Adult Psychiatry Clinic within UTHA's Mulva Clinic for the Neurosciences provides comprehensive mental health services focused on advancing clinical care, research, and education. The clinic integrates cutting-edge treatments and evidence-based practices to address a wide range of mental health conditions. Physicians at UTHA collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver personalized care, ensuring patients receive holistic and innovative treatment approaches. The Adult Psychiatry Clinic emphasizes coordinated, patient-focused care that bridges primary care and specialty mental health services, utilization of the latest research and evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes, and multidisciplinary collaboration to deliver innovative treatment and drive continuous improvement in mental health services.

Integral Care is the Local Mental Health Authority for Travis County, providing a comprehensive array of community psychiatry services. Accredited by The Joint Commission, Integral Care continually advances services to meet the needs of residents with serious mental illness. As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), Integral Care offers crisis facilities, mobile crisis outreach teams, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), and traditional outpatient services. The partnership with Integral Care allows psychiatrists to provide care to diverse populations in community-based settings, contribute to innovative, integrated care models addressing serious mental health challenges, and engage in meaningful collaborations with local and state agencies to improve access to mental health resources.

Primary Duties and Expectations

General Expectations:



  • Provide high-quality clinical care and teaching within the scope of license, training, credentialing, and quality standards of care.
  • Work collaboratively with Dell Medical School, UTHA, and Integral Care leadership to develop excellence in service and clinical care, optimal outcomes, and efficient resource utilization.
  • Train and mentor students, residents, and fellows on innovative models of care and clinical practice.
  • Foster an atmosphere of scientific and academic inquiry within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in residency training programs, including didactic presentations, resident recruitment, and mentorship.
  • Collaborate with other University of Texas schools and the UT System on multidisciplinary care models.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including teaching, presenting work at national meetings, and implementing research in practice.


Clinical Practice Expectations:



  • Possess strong communication skills to conduct clinical interviews and interpret responses to treatment.
  • Understand the impact of various psychosocial systems on treatment and age-specific psychopharmacology.
  • Provide in-person and/or telemedical psychiatric evaluations and clinical management services consistent with the standard of care.
  • Document services professionally using approved medical record systems and forms within 24 hours of service delivery.
  • Facilitate treatment teams that include multiple disciplines and trainees, demonstrating excellent collaboration skills.
  • Maintain compliance with attendance, work schedules, on-call policies, center policies/procedures, and billing standards.
  • Maintain required training, licensure, and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas, or the ability to obtain prior to appointment.
  • Board certified in psychiatry, or board eligible with a commitment to obtain certification within two years.
  • Eligible for credentialing and privileging by our clinics.
  • Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor or higher in the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Demonstrated leadership, clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence/motivate others at all professional and administrative levels.
  • Must be an innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence.
  • A track record of being able to lead, direct, and influence a team regardless of reporting lines, as well as be a team player.
