Role Description:

We are currently seeking an Electrophysiologist with experience in electrophysiology, molecular pharmacology, and tissue culture techniques. The candidate should have a well-demonstrated record in electrophysiology, particularly in the patch clamping of voltage-gated and/or ligand-gated ion channels and molecular and cellular signaling associated with ion channels. Therefore, applicants who are willing to establish their own workflows and provide meaningful creative and technical leadership are highly desired.

  • Conduct electrophysiology assessments on overexpression cell lines.
  • Measure calcium handling on multiple platforms on iPS cells or overexpression cell lines.
  • Perform screening of compounds of interest and their effect on ion channel activity, whether that be in cell lines, iPS cells or primary cells. This includes neuronal cells, cardiomyocytes, organoids, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across different therapeutic disease areas.
  • Keep detailed records of laboratory experiments and compile data in regular technical reports.
  • Interprets and presents data to project teams.
  • High productivity, the ability to multi-task, problem solving and attention to detail are critical characteristics of this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Electrophysiology, Biochemistry, Neurobiology, and Molecular biology techniques or related science. BS degree with a minimum of 5-8 years' experience, MS degree with a minimum of 3-6 years' experience or Ph.D. with a minimum of 2 years' experience.
  • Hands-on experience with the patch clamp technique (manual required and automated optional)
  • Understanding of ion channel physiology, cell signaling associated with channel function and dysfunction
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following: 2D cell culture (overexpression cell systems such as HEK, CHO, etc), primary cells, and iPS cells.
  • Must have some hands-on experience with drug screening or toxicological assessments, with willingness to work with toxic compounds of interest.
  • Must be able to design, plan, and execute experiments to understand electrophysiological effects of compounds of interest.
  • Key characteristics of a successful candidate in this position: willingness and ability to learn, ability to work in a team environment, and attention to detail.
  • Job duties involve occasional lifting (less than 35 lbs.).
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required. Candidate should possess basic computer skills such as data entry, and a high level of attention to detail is also required. The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to organize time independently and prioritize their workload to meet objectives in a flexible, team-oriented environment.
