Overview

CAES Missile Systems, in San Jose, CA is currently seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Technician to be a part of the Safety Group. This position will report directly to the EHS Supervisor and primary responsibilities will include manage the chemicals coming into the building and deploy them to various areas throughout the site; and pick up and segregate the associated hazardous wastes generated from manufacturing and assembly processes in accordance with Federal/State/Local Regulations and Requirements.


Responsibilities

Managing and documenting all chemical use at the site, from the time of delivery at the shipping and receiving area, to the unpacking, labeling and recordkeeping of the ultimate disposal of chemical waste, keeping the site in compliance with California and Federal hazardous material and hazardous waste regulations.

  • Investigating chemicals as needed for manufacturing
  • Collecting, Storing and labeling/dating the chemical wastes in accordance with CA and Federal EPA regulations
  • Scheduling and preparation of shipping documents associated with hazardous wastes and universal wastes
  • Coordinate recycling of used batteries, semi-precious metals, and sorting of some electronic waste streams
  • Maintain supplies to support manufacturing which would include first aid supplies, ergonomic aids, waste containers, and chairs
  • Completing spill clean-up and management of spill cleanup equipment
  • Inventory and placing orders of gas cylinders from our supplier used for production
  • Restocking chemicals on the manufacturing floor & rinsing & disposing of used chemical containers
  • Providing labels for all hazardous waste streams, secondary labeling, special chemical labels and EHS signage
  • Conducting daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly inspections around the site and report any negative findings back to the EHS Supervisor
  • Set up of ergonomic equipment in an office setting, sit stands, ergo keyboard trays, ergonomic chairs etc.
  • May be asked to back-up some facilities tasks or other maintenance roles based on needs of the company

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with hazardous material and waste
  • Highly organized with strong follow-up skills to track & manage tasks
  • Experience customer service skills, working with Operations & Facilities
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Preferred:

  • College coursework in Chemistry
  • Certified in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (as per Cal-OSHA General Industrial Safety Order # 5192)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

Pay Range: $25.00 - $31.00 hourly.

Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
