As a critical member of the CBIZ Legal Department, reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, the Assistant General Counsel will identify, minimize, direct, and help solve CBIZ's litigation and regulatory investigative risks across the country, both individually and, when appropriate, with the assistance of outside legal counsel. The Assistant General Counsel will collaborate and work with other members of the litigation and employment team.
Essential Functions and Primary Duties:
*Manage and work to resolve all threatened or active litigation and regulatory matters
*Investigate potential claims, conduct interviews, gather documents and manage outside counsel when necessary
*Provide guidance to internal business clients on legal and risk management issues including training and solutions
*Reinforce the ethical standards of the company and adhere to the same
Requirements:
*Must possess a Juris Doctorate degree
*A minimum of 10 years of business and/or employment litigation experience
*Trial experience, including first chair experience in taking matters to judgment at trial or arbitration, experience in multiple jurisdictions is a plus
*Counseling and litigation experience with employment law (Title VII, wage/hour, etc.), noncompetition and trade secret matters
*Experience in professional services malpractice claims, accounting or insurance broker malpractice is a plus
*Experience representing clients on matters in multiple states
*Experience consulting with human resources professionals on employment matters
*Experience representing clients before federal or state regulatory bodies
*Ability to consult on risk management matters related to M&A, insurance and data privacy
*General understanding of unique issues faced by public companies, significant representation of public companies is a plus
*Ability to work independently and manage numerous complex legal issues simultaneously with minimum supervision
*Ability to communicate effectively with management, corporate and support staff, field personnel, attorneys, witnesses and experts.
*Strong commitment to customer service with internal business clients
*Ability to apply sound business judgment within a legal context
*Strong leadership experience

*Demonstrated presentation skills
*Ohio law license in good standing
Qualifications Required:
* The successful candidate will be credentialed in applicable areas of expertise (i.e. law, accounting, tax, product/services) with at least ten years of relevant experience in the field or industry.
* Must have strengths in leadership and management from a strategic perspective.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, collaborative with internal groups to reach workable solutions, able to anticipate problems, creatively assess alternatives and manage conflicts
