The Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center invites applications for a full-time Instructor position. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative research environment focused on investigating genetic conditions affecting the cerebellum and the peripheral nervous system in both patients and experimental models of human diseases. This position offers the opportunity to combine seeing patients with neuromuscular and movement disorders conditions as well as working on cutting-edge projects to understand the genetic, cellular, and molecular underpinnings of neurodegeneration in conditions such as, but not limited to, CANVAS, and to translate this new knowledge into potential therapeutic strategies.

M.D., D.O. or M.D./Ph.D. degree with residency in Neurology and to be licensed in the state of New York to be allowed to see patients at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

Expertise in molecular genetics as well as in cellular and molecular biology and neuropathology is required.

Previous experience analyzing experimental models of motor neuron diseases and/or spinocerebellar ataxia is highly desirable.

It is also advantageous to have a fellowship training in neuromuscular and/or movement disorders and experience in laboratory techniques such as immunostaining, genotyping, breeding, RT-PCR, Western blot, cell culture, transfection and viral vector transduction.
