The Ryan White HIV Clinic seeks an HIV Clinical Social Worker, LCSW or Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC. The Clinical Social Worker is responsible for conducting face to face sessions with patients in order to complete thorough assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide supportive counseling, crisis intervention and brief therapy. Provides clinical services to patients in the Infectious Disease clinic. Responsible for serving populations with a variety of clinical needs particularly psychological stress related to health impairments, chronic illness, trauma, as well as substance abuse. Works with victims of intimate partner violence, abuse or exploitation, and facilitate the identification and implementation of healthy boundaries and effective communication techniques. Works with patients and team members in an effort to maximize patients' potential for the healthiest coping responses to their challenging situation. Based on overall assessment and summary of patients and family needs, makes appropriate community referrals for follow up as needed. Supervises those seeking to get their LCSW License. Participates in clinical training and supervision as needed. This Clinical Social Worker will provide care in a busy HIV clinic, working closely with Medicine and Psychiatry Attendings, APPs, Residents, Fellows, Case management team members, Pharmacists, RN Coordinators and clinic team members. You should have exceptional communication skills, work well with a large diverse team and have an interest in HIV. The UVA Health Ryan White HIV Clinic has a large multidisciplinary team who care for approximately 1,000 patients living with HIV. This HIV clinic is regularly recognized by the Virginia Department of Health and the Health Resources and Services Administration for best practices and outstanding clinical outcomes. Key Performance Area: Patient Care 1. Provides direct social work service to patients by providing assistance with social and practical environmental problems.
2. Provides emotional support to patients with anxiety and stress precipitated by illness and hospitalization. Conducts interventions based on needs identified during initial assessment.
3. Maintains acceptable working knowledge of resources needed to provide patients with continuity of care.
4. Participates in in-service and staff development activities by attendance, serving on planning committees and/or offering topics for pertinent educational programs.
5. Documents all activities relevant to casework, patient care and follow-up in accordance with UVA and Social Work Policy, Procedure and Guidelines and regulatory requirements.
6. Participates in education/research activities.
7. Provides individual counseling/problem solving sessions as needed.
Training and other Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program required Experience: Minimum of five years' experience in the social work field required; experience in health care settings is preferred. Therapy experience will also be considered. Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare setting or social agency, which could include a social work internship.
