Overview

The Risk Manager, Residential will be expected to balance legal and business imperatives in the course of supporting a broad range of claims-related matters for a rapidly growing multifamily organization. Primary activities will include supporting the General Counsel's team (Litigation) with the organization and handling of company litigation and pre-litigation matters; assisting in monitoring and advancing the resolution of property-level claims; and facilitating the implementation of litigation management and risk mitigation policies and best practices. The role involves collaboration with members of RMR's legal group and with many of the company's other internal and external stakeholders, including our operations, accounting, and human resources teams.



Responsibilities

    Drafting, reviewing and/or managing delivery of documents in connection with claims or litigation matters, such as releases or discovery responses.
  • Organizing case files, tracking case status, coordinating with local counsel, and generally assisting RMR's in-house counsel with preparations for active litigation and pre-litigation matters.
  • Coordinating and responding to subpoenas or other requests for information relating to residents or employees.
  • Communicating with properties to ensure incidents and claims are properly documented.
  • Reviewing and summarizing incident reports and participating in regular meetings to review materials incidents.
  • Serving as a liaison with insurance adjusters, legal teams, and operational staff in cases of escalated claims.
  • Collaborating on initiatives to improve efficiency and risk posture in our litigation and claims management.
  • Such other activities that may arise and that may be necessary or helpful in managing claims or mitigating risk to the company.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 5+ years' experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house law department setting; experience with an insurer, adjuster, or company with a risk/claims management team, or comparable government organization, will also be considered.
  • Strong organization and follow-through skills, keen attention to detail, sound judgment and common sense.
  • Strong understanding of policies and best practices of risk management, ability to educate and influence to business partners.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative and results driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage potentially confrontational situations, interact with counsel, and coordinate with operational teams.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently to produce high quality work product.
  • A drive for success and the ability to thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with multi-unit operation business required
  • Proficiency with MS Excel.
