Wenger Corporation is seeking two (2) Manufacturing Engineer Interns who are excited about gaining hands-on experience in Owatonna, MN! As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern, you will contribute to Wenger Corporation's strategy to provide an exceptional customer experience by designing, developing, and improving manufacturing processes and systems. Manufacturing Engineering Interns work to optimize production efficiency, control costs, and ensure quality and safety controls in the manufacturing process.
This position might be for you, if you are:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
It'd be great if you have:
- Experience in process development, and/or time and motion studies
- Experience with enterprise management software
- Skill in the use of CAD and SolidWorks or 3D Modeling
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office software
- Skill in reading engineering drawings and interpreting dimensioning and tolerancing including working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern, a typical day might include:
- Developing and implementing value engineering projects with the goal of achieving cost reduction, waste elimination, and continuous improvement
- Develops and introduces new methods, equipment and tools
- Audits product costs seeking reduction opportunities in materials and labor
- Seeks and accomplishes set-up time and lot size reductions
- Performs engineering work related to planning, devising, or adapting methods and processes
- Assist with the implementation of continuous improvement, Kaizen events and A3 projects as directed
- Provides labor and material estimates in both rough estimate and final form
- Encourages and establishes visual manufacturing and effective workplace organization (5S Philosophy) in work area layout
- Prepares process and systems documentation such as work instructions, standard work and value stream mapping
- Supports the generation of project schedules as related to manufacturing, tooling, industrial engineering, and manufacturing engineering concerns, and monitors performance to project schedules
- Leading and supporting continuous improvement or production support projects as assigned
- Responsible for timely completion of defined projects in accordance with established functional, schedule, quality, and cost definition
- Troubleshoots problems and expedites solutions & utilizes problem solving tools
- Assists in initial training with new equipment or production processes
- Acts as technical advisor in manufacturing decisions & engineering resource in problem solving activities
- Problem solves with tenacity and resolves identifying root cause and achieving permanent and deep solutions. Is not satisfied with addressing symptoms
- Utilizes statistical data analysis as appropriate
- Pursues mistake proofed solutions
