JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern is seeking an experienced and skilled DDC Controls Technician (Engineering Technician III), primarily for HVAC systems. This position works under minimal direction to provide technical support relating to HVAC systems, pneumatic HVAC controls/DDC controls; design, construction, modification, maintenance, and/or repair, ensuring optimal system performance and energy efficiency.
The ideal candidate will be extensively experienced in the following:
- Installation, maintenance, programming, and troubleshooting of Direct Digital Control (DDC), Building Automation Software (BAS), and Energy Management Systems (EMS), primarily for HVAC systems.
- Have programming skills, building construction knowledge, and advance-level electrical/electronic skills.
- Experience with environmental control, and other automated systems such as Desigo PXC Controllers, BACnet Programmable TECs (PTECs), Siemens Apogee BAS.
Work Location: Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.
Shift Requirement: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM; on-call after one week training.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
- High School Diploma or equivalence.
- Experience
- 4 years of experience in HVAC DDC controls and related HVAC systems, including and
- 2 years as an Engineering Tech II or equivalent.
Preferred
- Education
- Associate's Degree in electronic technology field or vocational school with completion of manufacturer's service course in repair and maintenance of temperature controls.

JOB DUTIES
- Diagnoses, repairs, calibrates and makes adjustments to electric, electronic and pneumatic HVAC controls using tools of trade to ensure required temperatures and humidity to all campus buildings.
- Knowledge of advanced programming in the Siemens Automation system to include complex lab controls, variable frequency drives, and integrated building HVAC systems.
- Performs database management of HVAC field panels and controllers.
- Installs DDC controls, programming, and graphics for renovations, upgrades, or system enhancement projects.
- Troubleshoots programming of building HVAC systems.
- Skilled in programming, commissioning, and graphic design.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
