Barilla America, Inc. wants to recruit a Quality Assurance Technician within Supply Chain based in Avon, NY. The individual will report to the Quality & Technology Manager. The positions hours are Sun-Thurs. The hours would be 5pm-1:30am.

Pay $ 21.00 per hour with $1.50 shift differential.

Job Purpose: The Quality Assurance Technician ensures the food safety and quality standards in the plant and for the product are within specification. Activities include testing raw materials and pasta samples from production for various attributes as outlined in Barilla America's control plans and entering the results into SAP. Following up with various departments is necessary to resolve issues. The Quality Assurance Technician will audit the processes, report the results, and implement corrective actions. The Quality Assurance Technician will often provide the last quality and food safety checks before the pasta is sent for distribution.

Inspections/Auditing:



  • Participate in and perform internal audtis for ISO, food safety, and quality requirements. Share results in documented reports as well as food safety meetings.
  • Perform Good Manufacturing Practices, Brittle Plastics, and Foreign Material inspections. Report results, create Quality Work Orders to correct issues, and verify completion.
  • Perform line inspections after sanitations and preventative maintenance. Follow-up with appropriate departments to correct issues before signing the line over to production.
  • Perform inspection and swab testing of CIP system before turning over to production.
  • Participate in and eventually independently perform internal audits.
  • Assist Quality Specialist as needed.



Communication and Collaboration:



  • Collaborate with manufacturing operators to prevent defects and, when defects are found, seek out and remove causes.
  • Communicate progress and issues within Quality department across shifts.
  • Communicate to production and other departments product holds, inspection results, and other issues that concern quality and food safety.
  • Serve as the contact person for production and keep supervisors informed of changes and issues that may arise.
  • Communicate to the Quality Manager results and observations that may not be able to be corrected independently.
  • Develop and review Quality and Food Safety documents. Train others on the changes and maintain the correct version in the database.
  • Manage corrective actions in the database.



Testing:



  • Test samples of finished product for correct date coding, cook quality, dimensions, and other quality parameters following specified procedures.
  • Review and verify food safety records are in compliance before releasing product and in general.
  • Hold product and raw material that does not satisfactorily meet specifications.
  • Report supplier non-conformities to corporate Supplier Quality Assurance. Issue a corrective action when necessary.
  • Perform routine maintenance on lab equipment.
  • Test samples from commissioning of new product/equipment and experiments. Summarize/report results in a simple and understandable format.



Education and Experience:



  • A high school diploma/GED is required for this position, and some college level chemistry courses would be helpful.
  • One year of previous lab experience is required.
  • The individual must possess basic algebra/general math skills.
  • The individual must be an organized self-starter who has the ability to manage time and multi-task while working without constant, direct supervision.
  • Excellent knowledge of computers or experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, is required.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment requiring a food safety scheme (FSSC22000, SQF, BRC) and follwoing FSMA is preferred
  • Troubleshooting, problem solving and decision making skills are required.
