Scope of Position:

Under the direction of Camp Chef prepare all items needed for meals, assist in prepping items for meals in advance , and use proper cleaning policies of the kitchen, following safety standards.

SCOPE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Logistics Coordinator and Camp Chef, prepare all items needed for meals, assist in prepping items for meals in advance, and use proper cleaning policies of the kitchen, following all food safety standards.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Hold a current Food Handlers Certification.
  • 1 season of summer camp experience or 6 months in equivalent work required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:



  • Desire to work with youth, teens, and young adults.
  • Be a Christian with a strong, demonstrative commitment to following Jesus Christ, and biblical principles, who is enthusiastic, energetic, and creative in spiritual leadership.
  • Ability to communicate well with others from diverse backgrounds, ages and nationalities.
  • Ability to work in groups.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to activities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be comfortable working with a high degree of independence.
  • In coordination with the Summer Leadership Team, facilitate the staff snacks and break day food.
  • Ability to make independent decisions that may involve unique or unusual situations and/or complex issues and dealing with demanding requests or timelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assist Camp Chef and Kitchen staff in maintaining kitchen cleanliness.
  • Assist in maintaining all functions a kitchen requires.
  • Assist in maintaining proper cleanliness and sanitization standards in all areas of the kitchen.
  • Assist the Camp Chef in meal planning, preparing, ordering, inventory, cleanliness and organization of the kitchen.


General Duties:



  • Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to, and with campers.
  • Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and campers.
  • Enforce adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Ensure and assist in the cleanliness of Kitchen, Dining Hall, and personal areas.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Logistics Coordinator, Camp Chef and/or Camp Director.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike and twist on a continuous basis for up to 15-20 minutes at a time
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, such as files, file cabinets drawers, and reach overhead
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
  • Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.


WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.
  • May be required to work in all areas of camp including, but not limited to, the kitchen, dish room, laundry facility and grounds.
  • Working in a distinctively Christian environment
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases
  • Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Work around dust, odor, and high noise levels


MISCELLANEOUS:

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.
