BioMed is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Corporate Controller, to join the team in San Diego, California. Reporting to the Vice President, Senior Controller and working closely with the senior accounting leadership and the executive management team, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing analytical and decision support and working alongside other teams within and outside of accounting department to budget and manage company's corporate expenses. They will also foster a collaborative environment by working with cross-functional teams and interacting with key stakeholders at BioMed and Blackstone. Additionally, the successful candidate will also be responsible for system implementations, real-estate acquisition and disposition accounting due diligence and driving efficiency through process improvements. As a leader within the accounting department, the successful candidate will oversee direct reports. This is highly visible critical accounting leadership role in a high functioning real estate accounting team, with consistent and impactful interaction with the top executives at BioMed.

This position offers a hybrid work model, which includes 4 days in office and 1 day remotely. Hybrid work may be modified based on the needs of the company.

Key Duties and Responsibilities



  • Direct and oversee activities related to corporate accounting functions, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Ensure compliance with GAAP as well as Company reporting policies.
  • Responsible for accounting of debt and swaps, understanding and appropriately accounting for complex legal entity structures, ensuring all intercompany, cash, and consolidation transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Responsible for maintaining corporate fixed assets and overseeing payroll function.
  • Prepare and review of corporate budgets for management and company stakeholders. Prepare detail and summary schedules and analysis for management.
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures for proper accounting of corporate expenses. Evaluate existing processes and recommend/implement necessary improvements and efficiencies.
  • Lead the implementation, integration, and optimization of financial systems, while working with IT and cross-functional teams to ensure systems meet organizational needs.
  • Conduct financial due diligence for any real estate acquisitions and dispositions by reviewing agreements and preparing proration statements, while working with other teams to close the deals. Be the accounting liaison to integrate any acquisitions within the accounting systems.
  • Partner with executive team and other department heads to develop and execute financial strategies that align with the business goals. Provide financial insights, scenario modeling, and risk analysis to support decision making related to corporate expenses.
  • Motivate and lead a high-performance team by attracting, developing, engaging and retaining team members with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Provide other departments with technical financial advice required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
  • Review GAAP, SEC and other guidelines to interpret and document their impact on company's corporate accounting and ensure compliance with external reporting requirements. Keep up-to-date on new innovative accounting and reporting methods and directs steps necessary to correct or reflect adjustments to ensure accurate reporting.


Job Specifications



  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance field.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Ten years progressive accounting experience; experience in public accounting preferred. Requires a track record of success in a role as Controller, preferably in real estate (public company or REIT experience helpful),
  • Three years' experience in a leadership role with responsibility for managing accounting staff.
  • Ability to interpret accounting and financial theories and concepts. Ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to end user in written correspondence, reports and presentations.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP with experience that demonstrates advanced skill in accounting and financial theory, methods and techniques.
  • Strong financial and accounting background with experience preparing budgets, compiling financial and operational data, and preparing financial analysis and reports.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software, preferably with MRI. Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.


Salary Range: $176,000-$220,000 per year + bonus + long term incentive + benefits

The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining pay, we'll consider location, experience, and other job-related factors.
