General Function:

Perform a wide range of inspection functions in accordance with approved procedures and/or instructions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • It is every BPM, Inc. Employee's responsibility to be aware of and work with Belvac's current documented Quality Management System as it pertains to their job requirements
  • CMM Programming (PC-DMIS, Calypso and/or Faro) and Inspection Methods Development
  • Advanced understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Perform part inspections using hand gauges, CMM and other lab metrology equipment.
  • Perform a wide range of inspection functions in accordance with approved procedures and/or instructions. These functions include but may not be limited to:
  • Receipt Inspection to include staging of parts and materials
  • In Process Inspections
  • First piece
  • Final
  • Final Inspection
  • Assembly Inspection
  • Process Surveillances
  • Inspection reporting
  • Training of Inspectors
  • Continuous Improvement/Problem Solving Activities
  • Gage and instrument calibration, reporting and monitoring
  • Quality System work instruction development (gauge calibration & inspection process)
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Knowledge Required to Perform Job:

Inspection Skills:

  • Perform all Requirements of part inspections using all available lab metrology equipment and gages.

Continuous Improvement Skills:

  • Excel, Microsoft Office, Access
  • Advanced PC skills
  • Developing spreadsheets to gather and analyze Quality problems
  • Sorting and analyzing data
  • Preparing Quality related charts and graphs
  • Advanced Knowledge and application of statistics
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve quality problems

  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Pareto

  • Develop, plan and implement inspection technique and methods training
  • 5S Improvement and Audit

Advanced Measuring and Test Equipment Skills:

  • Maintain the calibration program to assure measurement and test equipment is calibrated
  • Calibrate instruments using approved work instruction
  • Use gage tracking software for maintaining calibration records and running calibration reports
  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Assembly in scheduling gage calibrations to prevent interruptions in production flow
  • Obtain quotes and approvals for calibration of gaging and purchasing new gaging.
  • Perform gage R&R studies as required
  • Evaluate and recommend the purchase of new gaging and work with Engineering when gaging is designed
  • Alter the calibration program when needed
  • Review & maintain records such as certifications, out of tolerance gaging and archived information

Coordinate Measuring Machine Skills:

  • Program manual & Direct Computer Control coordinate measuring machines using PC-DMIS, Calypso or Faro for the inspection of parts to engineered specifications
  • Design standard programs so that execution instructions are easily understood
  • Understand CADD drawings, *.dwg, *dxf, *ijes files and use data in association with CMM software to produce programs
  • Design inspection holding fixtures for CMM
  • Output measured data to files for Quality records and/or SPC database
  • Create single part programs, using variables, which are used to inspect parts at different stages of manufacturing process
  • Edit and update programs in conjunction with Engineering Change Orders (CO)
  • Ability to effectively train others in the proper use of hand gaging such as: Micrometers, calipers, check fixtures, gage blocks, thread gages, etc.
  • Possess CMM knowledge to teach CMM inspection techniques
  • Identify proper methods of inspection based on ANSI Y14.5 and apply methods to assure manufactured parts are to engineered specification
  • Create training records of training performed

Education:

  • High school graduate or GED and Technical or College Credits approaching or completing Associate Degree

Skills and Experience:

  • Required - Advanced CMM PCDMIS programming skills
  • Required - Working knowledge of CMMs, hand gages, and other lab metrology equipment
  • Required - Advanced understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Required - Advanced understanding of Engineering drawings
  • Windows, MS Office experience
  • Machine shop experience is helpful
