Custodian

The Salvation Army Midland Division Headquarters is looking for a Custodian. This is individual will be responsible is to perform all types of building custodial cleaning duties to include seasonal grounds upkeep, room set-ups for meetings, and other duties as assigned by the Property Manager.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week at $ 15.00 per hour and is located at 1130 Hampton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63139

Essential Functions

1. Performs general cleaning and janitorial duties in the common areas of the building.
2. Performs minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes.
3. Assists in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and employee lunchroom and kitchens.
4. Move furniture, equipment, and deliveries as requested.
5. Performs limited grounds maintenance such as liter removal, watering, and cleaning snow from sidewalks.
6. Ensures heating and cooling systems are operational.
7. Maintains a neat and orderly janitor's room; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked.
8. Washes windows and doors.
9. Assists in examining buildings for safety hazards, reports deficiencies to property manager.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.
11. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, visitors, co-workers and supervisors. This includes, but is not limited to, such actions as: resolution of conflicts in a professional manner; courteous treatment of staff, visitors and clients; respect of others' property and person; and professional and appropriate communication to and about visitors, clients, co-workers and supervisors.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
• Detail-oriented and thorough.
• Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
• Ability to keep the buildings clean and orderly.
• Ability to interact with staff, vendors, and visitors while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.
• Pass background check
• Have valid driver's license
• Obtain a Class A driver's license and DOT requirements to operate DOT box truck.

Education and Experience

A High School Diploma or GED with one-year related work experience. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Class A driver's

Physical and Working Conditions

Capable for standing prolonged periods. Capable of frequently lifting 50 pounds, occasionally lifting to 100 pounds. Occasionally move 100 pounds or more using dolly/cart/truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height. Some lifting required above waist and shoulder height, but it will be at a reduced weight. Employee will have to bend, stoop, crouch, stand, walk, carry and push/pull items to accomplish this job. Occasionally climb a ladder to work (replace light bulbs, etc.). Some of this work will be outdoors and it will be cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
