About the Job

The Director of Investments (DOI) reports to the Chief Executive Officer and serves to manage the monitoring and tracking of all approved investments at Rembert Pendleton Jackson (RPJ). This role is primarily focused on providing detailed updates on existing investments, but also includes the vetting of potential new opportunities. The DOI will head our internal Investment Committee meetings, conducted quarterly. Responsibilities will range from client communications with economic updates to screening new funds, providers, and asset classes. A deep knowledge of investments is required. The DOI will ultimately serve as an expert advisor on all investment matters. Additionally, Director of Investments will manage all RPJ institutional clients.

MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Track all investments on current approved investment list, including changes in management, investment style, performance, share classes, or price
  • Research and identify prospective investment opportunities to align with RPJ's current investment philosophy, including due diligence review
  • Review and share relevant economic or fund updates from fund managers and other sources with staff
  • Advise Relationship Managers on portfolio construction and asset allocation
  • Provide periodic analysis of performance and risk characteristics of various allocation weighting scenarios
  • Craft Quarterly Newsletter describing market trends and our approach to asset management
  • Maintain internal portfolio construction worksheet (excel-based with formulas)
  • Ensure all investments in portfolio reporting software (Tamarac) are properly labeled by asset class and asset sector
  • Maintain relationships with existing investment managers and mutual fund wholesalers by coordinating regular meetings for entire staff to provide updates on strategies
  • Lead Investment Committee (IC) meetings to update staff on approved investment rankings or changes
  • Maintain accurate IC meeting minutes and backup information for compliance review
  • Be available for client meetings to discuss intricacies of existing securities in portfolios on an as-needed basis
  • Conduct research on prospect's portfolios, offering comparison to proposed RPJ portfolios including typical investment research and metrics (alpha, cost, allocation, etc.)
  • Provide on-demand and proactive client communications during market fluctuations
  • General familiarity with the day-to-day economic landscape
  • Institutional clients:
    • Develop Investment Policy Statement (IPS) and present to Non-Profit board members
    • Manage assets and cash flow for Non-Profit portfolios, adhering to IPS
    • Deliver quarterly reports to applicable board members

Required Skills

  • BS or BA in business, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a related field
  • MBA and/or completion of the CFA curriculum strongly recommended
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Morningstar
  • Fundamental understanding of financial markets, products, and services and experience analyzing investments
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial and technical information in an understandable manner to individuals and groups
  • High integrity, strong work ethic, team orientation, and genuine intellectual curiosity a must
  • More than 10 years of professional experience, including asset allocation and manager selection in a multi-asset class portfolio

SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements.

Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions.

Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.

Compensation Information

At Sandy Spring Bank, compensation is one part of our total rewards package. Compensation within the range will depend on your skills, qualifications, education, experience, and location. Additionally, full-time and part-time positions may be eligible to participate in department or company-wide incentive plans.


Salary Range

USD $150,000.00 - USD $225,000.00 /Yr.
