Job Summary: This position will assist in the multi-faceted operational and administrative needs of the Nutrition Education department of Recreation & Wellbeing (Rec Well), which includes a variety of cooking classes for UW-Madison students, Wolf Teaching Kitchen room rentals, and internal and external collaboration efforts. This position works directly with professional and student staff in completing administrative tasks, coordinating outreach efforts, assisting with hiring processes, and supporting Nutrition Education events and programs. Responsibilities: Arranges logistics, provides broad administrative oversight, and implements programmatic changes for one or more recreational programs to efficiently provide a broad range of recreational services to the institutional community. Develops marketing and communication materials for promotion to students, staff, and customers; and assists with recreational program staff recruitment and development. 25% Coordinates logistics for events and programs 10% Develops targeted communication plans and materials based on established goals 15% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised operational policies and procedures 25% Assists in implementing the staffing resource allocation plan including hiring, training, and supervision 5% Prepares and monitors budgets and purchases expenditures as needed 10% Engages in the Rec Well professional internship development curriculum, all staff meetings, divisional committees, and other professional development responsibilities and opportunities 10% Schedules and coordinates room rental operations of the Wolf Teaching Kitchen Tasks: Complete administrative tasks for Wolf Teaching Kitchen rental requests. This includes tracking information, communicating with internal staff and external groups, and following room rental timeline and room use policies. Support Nutrition Education food programs through program planning, inventory management, using internal communication platforms, outreach events, and executing weekly and daily administrative and hands-on processes. Assist in leading and managing up to 10 Nutrition Education student staff through training, providing individualized support, creating work schedules, delegating tasks, providing feedback, and leading student meetings. Contribute to making data informed decisions of Nutrition Education programs through internal and external surveys and program analysis. Maintain a presence at Nutrition Education programs, as needed. Perform regular inspections of kitchen equipment and risk management supplies. Participate in divisional and university collaborations as a representative of the Nutrition Education department. Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 Qualifications: A successful candidate for this position should have: - Passion for inclusive approaches to food, nutrition, and cooking with a demonstrated interest in experiential learning - Customer service experience - Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse groups, students, and professionals - Demonstrate adaptability, leadership, and organization - Ability to think creatively and critically to identify and solve problems - Food Sanitation Manager's Certificate, or ability to attain it within the first 30 days of start date Work Schedule: Typical working hours are weekdays from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, with some evening and weekend hours required. The position averages 30 hours per week. Work Type: It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Appointment Type, Duration: Terminal appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding. Salary: $22.00 HOURLY This position is not eligible for housing, benefits, or health insurance. Additional Information: Professional Internship - The academic year internship is a limited-term position lasting nine months or up to a total of 1,040 hours. - Employment is expected to run approximately from mid-August 2025 to mid-May 2026. - Compensation is $22 per hour, based on an average of 30 hours per week. - The intern will receive time off during university breaks (approximately four weeks, unpaid). - Opportunities for professional development funding support may be available.
