Composite Lay-Up Technician II

PCX Aerosystems is a premier supplier of flight-critical mechanical systems and structures to leading aerospace OEMs and the US Government. PCX Aerosystems' headquarter is located in Newington, Connecticut but has locations in Long Beach (NuSpace) and Santa Ana, CA; Boylston, MA; Newington, Enfield; and Manchester, CT. ROLE SUMMARY

Responsible for the fabrication of composite lay-up parts and assemblies using fiberglass-reinforced epoxy, carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy, and other composite materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES



  • Independently perform composite part fabrication start to finish including, but not limited to: Tool Preparation, Layup, Ply Cutter Operation, Cutting Flat Patterns, Oven/Autoclave Operation, Vacuum Bagging, and Debag/Detool
  • Prepreg material handling and other duties as required to support business needs
  • 100% compliance to all company policies (EH&S, Quality, AS9100, ect.)
  • Perform rework assignments as required
  • Ensure all parts paperwork and documentation is completed properly
  • Must be able to stand for long periods


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Minimum 6 months related experience and/or training. Previous training or experience working with composites, textiles or fabrics highly preferred.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and understand work instructions
  • Knowledge of basic shop math
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. English proficiency is required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with supervision, engineering, management and customer representatives.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.


DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS



  • Hand lay-up experience working with phenolic, epoxy, polyimide, BMI, and cyanate ester reinforced with fiberglass, carbon fiber, or aramid prepreg materials
  • Adhesive bonding and surface preparation experience
  • AS9100 experience
  • Operation of oven, autoclave, filament winder, and automated ply cutter
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, ply orientation tables, and engineering specifications.
  • Experience working in an environment of continuous process improvement and track record of developing and implementing process improvements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand at least 6 to 8 hours a day. Must be able to work with their hands, arms and be extremely accurate. Must be able to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl on a regular basis. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on a regular basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving high speed machinery and mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. outside weather conditions, machine oils, metal fillings, acetone, paints, solvents, grease, cutting fluids, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock or vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Hiring Range: $26- $37.00
