Purpose of Job

In the absence of administration and department managers, is responsible for: indirect supervision of employees within each department for a designated shift; the allocation of human and physical resources throughout the building; and assuring continuity of nursing activities for the nursing division for specified shifts.

Job Functions



  1. As designated, serves in the leadership role for situations that arise in need of coordination, directing or communicating necessary information to Administration or department directors or managers.


  2. Reviews and monitors applicable policies and procedures. As assigned, ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agency standards.


  3. Proactively identifies and acts upon improvement projects and opportunities through observation, data analysis, engagement with partners, review of external impact factors and best practices, as well as ongoing communication with leadership and staff.


  4. Promotes/supports organization and department continuous quality improvement.


  5. Demonstrates leadership by building a culture consistent with Ridgeview Medical Center's mission, values, and guiding principles.


  6. Provides effective individual departmental and organizational verbal and written communications.


  7. Establishes, monitors, and enforces standards for department risk management, safety, and security in accordance with RMC Safety/Risk Management Committee.


  8. Maintains service excellence by exhibiting excellent customer relations with patient/clients, visitors, physicians, coworkers, community and referral sources.


  9. Responsible for personal and professional development to ensure current knowledge and performance in the profession/position and the promotion of professional growth of others.


  10. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education/Work Experience



  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing


  • Bachelor's degree in nursing


  • Three to five years' experience in medical/surgical nursing


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



  • Professional presence and effective interpersonal skills


  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions


  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above


  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coach a team


  • Excellent communication and influencing skills and ability to build strong working relationships at all levels


  • Ensures excellent service with a high degree of urgency to internal and external customers


  • Demonstrated computer aptitude to include ability to effectively utilize the Kronos system and Microsoft suite


  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above


License/Certifications


  • Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous healthcare related experience
