We are looking for aPrincipalAnalystto focus on the North American copper market. The analyst will deliver analysis and insight to support commercial and operational decisions across the region.

The Copper Market Analysis team sits within Rio Tinto's Copper Sales & Marketing team. It is responsible for providing insight and analysis to support commercial, operational and strategic decisions related to the group's copper business. In addition to copper our operations also produce Sulphuric Acid, Molybdenum, and various precious/critical metals. The role will include coverage of these markets.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Copper Market Analysis, you will

  • Deliver insight to support commercial, operational and strategic decisions
  • Work closely with sales and marketing managers to deliver actionable views.
  • Maintain and further develop our regional supply and demand forecasts
  • Develop a deep understanding of regional supply chains and material flows.
  • Monitor, track and interpret regional trade flows.
  • Track competitor, customer and end-user activity to identify trends and opportunities
  • Support projects and conduct detailed analysis into niche market segments based on business need
  • Develop market narrative to present views internally, both in written form and verbally.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the below experience

  • Relevant experience within the metals industry (miner, producer, or consumer), trader, bank, or commodity focused consultancy.
  • Independent worker able to proactively identify market developments and potential opportunities
  • Proven relevant experience and analytical skills with the ability to critically analyze data, identify trends and key market drivers
  • Ability to present concepts and information in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English) are essential
  • Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office and Power BI
  • University degree
  • A deep understanding of North American commodity markets would be an asset
  • Knowledge of our major markets (copper, sulphuric acid, molybdenum) would be beneficial
