Generic Scope
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.
Custom Scope
Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction and supervision to skilled crafts and trades workers, according to established policies and management guidance. Examples of specialties include carpentry, plumbing, boiler operators, HVAC, abatement and insulation, electrical, and painting. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff. Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provide priority setting and work flow analysis.

Direction - The incumbent establishes procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives in a broad area of work. Only the final results of work done are typically reviewed. Incumbent typically develops procedures within the limit of established guidelines.
Position Custom Scope
Reporting to the Facilities Services Assistant Director of Maintenance, the Plumbing Supervisor oversees the plumbing services to the campus and manages and directs a staff of plumbers. This role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of commercial, industrial, and residential plumbing (water and draining) systems, backflow prevention devices, hot water storage tanks, water heaters, fixtures (sinks, urinals, commodes, fountains, etc.), valves, pipe fittings, pipes, compressors, pumps, and purification equipment (reverse osmosis systems and filtration).

Reviews work performed at various stages and upon completion.
Oversees inspection, repair, maintenance, operation, calibration, testing and installation of equipment and associated systems. Researches electrical, plumbing, utility and mechanical system requirements and methods for installation of equipment and code compliance. Visits work sites to assess if any special equipment or materials are required to perform the necessary work.

Plans and schedules projects, ensures that work meets quality standards and complies with codes and regulations.
Implements, determines and monitors maintenance and preventative maintenance schedules for equipment and systems coordinating with other skilled trades, as required. Develops plans and assigns work. Utilizes knowledge of building and safety codes to ensure quality/quantity standards and code compliance at all stages of the repair or project are met. Oversees and coordinates work performed by contractors and inspectors.

Reviews plans, specifications, and requisitions for projects to establish daily, weekly, and long-range work schedules. Assigns and directs job assignments, and furnishes special instructions or information to ensure timely and quality completion of work. Monitors and closes out completed work orders. Schedules work ensuring minimal downtime and inconvenience for equipment and campus clients.

Maintains records on maintenance projects and preventative maintenance programs. Tracks and maintains reports on the materials used; obtains stock inventory of parts, materials and equipment necessary for timely completion of projects. Keeps records of all jobs and hours worked for each work week through university timekeeping and work order systems.

Provides operational support to various Facilities Services operating units based on need. Collaborates with all Facilities Services units to accomplish multi-trade maintenance, repairs and special projects. Responds to campus emergencies and dispatches staff, as necessary. Participates in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for department or department operations; may include, but not limited to, operational, personnel, inventory, safety policies and procedures.5 %

Ensures that new and existing staff members receive proper training.
Facilitates and coordinates courses/materials for technical and safety trainings. Ensures safety procedures and conditions are established, maintained, and followed of staff, equipment, tools, and work area. Provides technical assistance; conducts on-the-job training to improve staff skill levels. Instructs staff on safe and proper protocols when asbestos, mold or lead contamination is suspected.
