Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

- Assists with the orderly flow of all court proceedings.
- Serves as backup for other staff members as necessary.
- Examines court documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and legal sufficiency.
- Assists in processing dispositions and sentences in the Court's case management system.
- Prepares and maintains court dockets for upcoming court dates.
- Receives payments and issues receipts.
- Post and process payments and balance the settlement report at the end of each day.
- Responds to inquiries in person, by e-mail, and by telephone.
- Acts as liaison between the court, the public, and other parties to ensure that cases proceed smoothly and efficiently.
- Provides the level of customer service necessary without giving legal advice.
- Processes and prepares all applications for alternative sentencing programs.
- Examines legal documents submitted to court for adherence to law or court procedures, prepares case folders, and posts, files, or routes documents.
- Secures information for judges, and contacts witnesses, attorneys, and litigants to obtain information for court, and instructs parties when to appear in court.
- Assist in notifying the solicitor's office of cases heard in General Sessions.
- Assist in recording case disposition, court orders, and arrangement for payment of court fees
- Process NRVCs and follow up by mailing the same to the defendant, and if not satisfied in 15 days, to the SC Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Assist in processing bench warrants for those tried in absence and transmit them to the city to be served.
- Assist in handling correspondence for the department.
- Operates a variety of equipment and machines including a personal computer system, 10-key calculator, telephone, copy and fax machine, recording system, dictating machines, tape recorder, etc.
- Uses a variety of tools and supplies including diagrams, entry books, file cabinets, pens, pencils, charts, forms, programs, schedules, etc.; and a variety of computer software including word processing and specialized court software.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements
-
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent with course work in typing and/or general office practices with two (2) years prior work experience in clerical, secretarial, paralegal or administrative work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
