Summary: University College (UC) supports Temple's mission by providing high-quality education to its students that is accessible, affordable, diverse, and engaged with the broader community across its campuses at Ambler, Center City, Harrisburg, Main, and online. UC serves learners of all ages and backgrounds by delivering credit, non-credit, training, and continuing education programs. UC seeks to build capacity and support the unique strengths of each location in response to regional needs with educational programs as well as space and services for conferences, training, and other events for both internal and external clients. UC is seeking to hire a colleague for an Advisor II position, which provides the following to a diverse population of all first-year and transfer UC students that includes non-traditional students in the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program; students taking courses and programs at Ambler Campus and students seeking UC certificates: direct advising services (in-person and virtual), holistic and intentional academic support and guidance; discussions about academic and professional goals and academic program requirements; course selection and registration activities from enrollment through graduation; academic coaching/guidance for students in academic jeopardy; and connecting to University services and resources. Responsibilities include planning academic schedules, major selection, and supporting students on academic warning/probation. This position adheres to all University advising principles, policies, and procedures to maintain or improve student success and retention and ensure students meet academic program requirements. Resolves student issues; and is knowledgeable with re-enrollment, Change of Program, and Leave of Absence processes. Also assists with the preparation of, and participation in, New Student Orientations and other student success/engagement/professional development programs and initiatives for University College and/or Ambler Campus students. Maintains a working knowledge of university advising policies and procedures and student support areas across Temple such as tutoring, disability resources and services (DRS), wellness, counseling, student life, etc. Implements a holistic and intentional advising philosophy that supports a diverse student population with unique needs. This role is highly collaborative and works with colleagues across the University to support student retention. Opportunities to teach a first-year seminar course and professional development workshops are available. Performs other duties as assigned. The Academic Advisor II position reports to the Assistant Director of Advising and Student Success and is based at Temple's Ambler Campus in the Academic and Student Services unit. This position is a student-facing position and part of a campus continuity team. Remote work opportunities may be a possibility depending on time of year and student/campus needs and are at the discretion of the director. This position also requires a background check. Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and at least seven years of progressively responsible higher/education fundraising experience with a proven track record of closing six to seven figure gifts. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision and guidance * Ability to collaborate with a diverse body of faculty, staff, and students across multiple campuses; shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences. * Strong creative problem-solving skills. * Excellent communication/interpersonal skills plus strong customer service and active listening skills. * Ability to handle confidential student information and records * Ability to work under limited guidance/supervision. * Strong time management and organizational skills plus attention to detail. * Ability to take initiative and work independently while also demonstrating the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams; Ability to learn new and emerging technologies. * Familiarity with student information systems such as Banner, advising databases, degree audit reporting systems and Canvas. * Ability to travel to meetings/events on and off-campus; work a flexible schedule (occasional weekend/evening hours) as needed. * Knowledge of University advising policies and procedures preferred. * Basic knowledge of data management and statistics, preferred.
