The School of Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), invites applications for the role of Director of Simulation. This is a full- time position at the UCSF School of Nursing. This unique opportunity allows the successful candidate to utilize simulation to improve education and patient outcomes in an academic and health system, in a newly designed simulation center.

Job Description:

The Director of Simulation provides leadership, management, and coordination of simulation learning within the School of Nursing (SON) and for the UCSF Health Center for Nursing Excellence & Innovation. The Director, in collaboration with faculty and clinical colleagues, develops and ensures the quality of simulation (low, medium, and high fidelity) that supports the evaluation of professional development, innovations, and competencies of students, nurses, and staff. The Director works alongside SON faculty and UCSF Health leadership to identify and design research studies, which advance the use of simulation within nursing and healthcare systems. The Director identifies and explores business opportunities internally and externally to maintain a successful and sustainable simulation center.

Key Job Responsibilities:



  1. Provide leadership to faculty in the SON and UCSF Health Nursing Professional Development team in utilization of simulation to enhance and ensure educational competence of learners across specialties, programs, and health system units.
  2. Design a strategy to implement the INACSL and SSH simulation standards leading to INACSL endorsement and SSH accreditation for both the UCSF Health and SON simulation centers.
  3. Apply national standards to support programs in expanding simulation activities including faculty and staff training and development.
  4. Collaborate with leadership, faculty, and staff, across health professions, to develop scholarly activities (such as research and quality improvement activities) to showcase and evaluate the impact of simulation on organizational outcomes.
  5. Partner with the Assistant Dean of Educational Technology and Innovation in the SON and the Director of Nursing Professional Development to develop a budget business plan for both simulation centers, and all simulation-related activities.
  6. Represent UCSF across inter/national organizations to improve visibility of UCSF Health and SON through dissemination of simulation programs and outcomes.


Qualifications:

Required: Must have a DNP, PhD, or EdD degree by the time of hire. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission.

Preferred: National certification (i.e., Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator). Management experience in an educational setting. Demonstrated experience developing, managing, and evaluating simulation activities, curriculum, and / or programs. Evidence of scholarly activities such as research and / or quality improvement focused on simulation.
