Vehicle Safety Test Engineer Intern

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Vehicle Safety Test Engineer Intern for the summer to join the Safety Integration team in Superior Township, MI:

Primary Responsibilities (but not limited to)



  • Day-to-day support role planning, coordinating, and executing full vehicle crash testing

    • Create test plan
    • Confirm test setup conditions
    • Aid in pre-test vehicle preparation
    • Conduct post-test structural teardowns, inspections, and analysis
    • Introduction to occupant & structural test data analysis
    • Introduction to crash test technical reporting


  • Potential 2024 Summer Project(s) :

    • Comprehensive understanding of full vehicle crash test process (begin~end)
    • Crash Test Dummy Seating / Positioning Analysis
    • 3D Coordinate measurement machine(CMM) analysis optimization


  • Work collaboratively with cross functional teams (internal and external organizations)
  • Maintain short and long term schedules
  • Willingness to learn new technologies, methods, work scope
  • Willingness to work in physical full vehicle crash and component testing environments

    • Hands-on experience and attitude




Experience and Skills



  • Internship (university) level position
  • Exhibit strong data analysis skills, attention to detail, and logical problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity
  • Ideal candidate exhibits can-do attitude and approaches their work with high level of determination
  • Self- motivator with a drive to get things done despite challenges and obstacles

Basic Qualifications:



  • Working towards
    - Bachelor/Masters degree in Biomedical or Biomechanical Engineering
    - Working towards Bachelor/Master degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Foundational understanding of mechanical engineering principles
    (kinematics, kinetics, material properties, strength of materials)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills
    (verbal, email, phone call, engineering reports, etc)
  • Proficient skills in MS Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Proficient time management and organization skills
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
