Basic Function

The Process Specialist for the Tank Farm is accountable for product inventory, logistics management, maintenance planning and direct supervision of the rail loading employees. This individual will manage the daily loading and offloading of tank trucks and railcars, pipeline movements, and tank farm activities. In addition, the Tank Farm Process Specialist has the responsibility for maintenance issues and provides the interface between Operations and the Maintenance organization. Communication skills are key in managing inventories and product movement while coordinating with outages, inspections and maintenance activities.

Roles & Responsibilities

* Track unit production metrics to ensure production requirements are met in order to meet customer demand (work closely with BLO Volume Planner)

* Interfaces with the Business, Manufacturing & Production planning as needed to discuss plant operation, sales outlooks and business needs.

* Work with Rail and Truck Coordinators to ensure timely fulfillment and delivery of product to customers

* Thoroughly investigates reasons for loading/equipment upsets &/or failures and works w/ appropriate technical support to obtain & implement proper solutions in order to maintain goals for quality, reliability & production rates

* Lead the daily logistics call with LYB Supply Chain and downtown inventory planners

* Attends operations daily shift huddle to provide guidance and context related to inventory management decisions

* Monitor pipeline movements to customers and adjust transfers as required

* Manage truck and pipeline movements to terminals for loading of product onto vessels

* Must be familiar w/ government DOT reg's and be able to work/communicate with a variety of corporate groups to maintain compliance

* Manage inventory and logistics of raw materials

* Provide assistance / facilitate handling of non-conforming product / raw materials

* Provide guidance / verification as needed related to product handling requirements and equipment specifications.

* Sets priorities on maintenance work to be accomplished and coordinates with the Production Maintenance Coordinator to accomplish the daily maintenance initiatives within the area.

* Review, prioritize, and manage work orders for maintenance and operational tasks, ensuring timely completion and minimal disruption to production.

* Ensure operating information and procedures in the operating and training manuals are current/accurate for use by tank farm operators and loaders.

* Ensures compliance of applicable safety, environmental rules, policies and procedures.

* Participate in plant safety programs. Participate in Process Hazard Analyses and Incident Investigations. Ensures timeliness with Intelex action items.

* Responsible for up-to-date instructions ("night letter") provided to the operators

* Supervise the rail loading area including: employees, scheduling, overtime, maintenance, PM's, and relationships with third parties (Union Pacific, PSC, Rail-Logix, etc.)

* Mentor new Production and Process engineers

Min. Qualifications

  • Prior Supervisory Experience is preferred
  • 10 years POTBA technology and logistics/tank farm experience preferred
  • To effectively perform the duties of this position, the individual must possess and demonstrate a thorough technical understanding of plant chemical processes and unit operations (technical process expert).
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are required due to the frequent interaction with department personnel, third party companies and other functional groups.
  • This position supports the shift organization in a 24 hour, 365 day per year operation.
  • Good computer skills are required, including Microsoft Office Suite experience and SAP Knowledge.
