Job Description

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Regulatory Accounting & Financial Reporting, this role leads the regulatory and financial reporting functions for WGL, including the preparation of all external financial statements and regulatory reporting requires such as the FERC Forms 2, 2A, and 3Q for WGL and subsidiaries.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts accounting research, interprets and assists in developing disclosures for new accounting transactions and standards issued by the FASB, the FERC and other bodies as necessary. Monitors, assesses and oversees the implementation of all new SEC accounting rules and regulations as appropriate.
  • Drafts and reviews both non-financial and financial sections of quarterly and annual financial reports for multiple entities. Reviews and provides feedback on deliverables prepared by the financial reporting team to ensure adequacy and reliability of the underlying documentation, the accuracy of information and compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, FERC and other requirements, as necessary.
  • Interprets complex accounting transactions and disclosures and applies this knowledge in analyzing, summarizing and reporting financial data to senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Drafts/reviews the monthly, quarterly and annual cash flow statement preparation for three (3) entities, as well as non-GAAP reporting.
  • Establishes and maintains a rapport with key contacts in other departments, as well as with AltaGas, to facilitate the timely and accurate flow of information necessary for proper financial statement disclosure.
  • Monitors the information needs of AltaGas, business units and other support groups to ensure their needs are satisfied.
  • Responsible for controls and procedures within the Financial Reporting area.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (or a related field) required
  • MBA or a master's degree in accounting or strong public accounting experience may be substituted for a portion of required experience. preferred
  • 7+ Years of experience in an accounting function required
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and SEC regulations.
  • Ability to prepare financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Statement of Cashflows) and associated footnote disclosures.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal, to evaluate and implement solutions to technical accounting and financial reporting issues.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex messages to diverse audiences at all organization levels.
  • Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office applications to share, retrieve, research and present business information.
  • Ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors, subordinates, and peers.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, and to identify relevant issues in solving business problems for creating financial analyses and other formal presentations.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate multiple scenarios and to implement the most effective solutions to broadly defined business issues.
  • General working knowledge of FERC uniform system of accounts and understanding of the regulated energy industry is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, PowerBI and/or WDesk is preferred.

We offer a competitive salary range of $113,000 to $164,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
