Position Description

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for identifying potential customers, engaging in front-line marketing, pipeline building, market-research/RFIs, and building relationships with customers and partners. This role plays a pivotal part in gathering information to support the initial pitch to LCG executives, working closely with portfolio owners to develop new business opportunities within existing customer environments and fostering relationships within the federal contracting market. The Business Development Specialist will also represent the company at industry events, support capture and proposal development, and collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure successful contract acquisition. This position supports initial customer engagement and assists Senior Leadership in strategic decision-making to shape deals. This role will report directly to the Vice President of Growth Strategy.

Key Responsibilities



  • Assist in executing sales and marketing initiatives to expand market share within the GovCon sector, aligning efforts with strategic direction from leadership.
  • Develop relationships and identify potential federal customers and opportunities through direct methods like calls and meetings, as well as indirect methods such as networking with industry contacts, influencers, and trade organizations.
  • Assist in the identification of high-value opportunities across federal focusing on IT, Healthcare IT, Grants, providing recommendations to leadership for pursuit strategies
  • Support revenue growth initiatives by expanding our relationships and brand recognition within target agencies.
  • Represent LCG through stakeholder engagement at industry specific events, promoting our success, past performance, and brand.
  • Support teaming agreements with subcontractors or prime contractors as necessary to strengthen positioning and improve competitiveness.
  • Assist with the cultivation & management of partnerships with organizations that achieve a delicate balance, combining a proven track record of successful past performances with a strategic alignment to our capabilities, thereby enhancing and fortifying our overall business proposition.
  • Build relationships with key federal stakeholders, including contracting officers, program managers, and industry partners.
  • Leverage existing networks and industry connections to foster new opportunities and partnerships within federal agencies, providing recommendations to leadership on potential pursuits.
  • Foster relationships with C-suite executives, government leaders, and innovators, helping position the company as a trusted partner in delivering high-impact innovation services.
  • Assist the Capture Managers in contributing to the capture process, by identifying customer objectives, goals, and desired outcomes to fuel the shaping and positioning of an opportunity.
  • Support the capture process for federal opportunities by assisting in the development of capture strategies, win themes, and pricing approaches.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging trends and new client needs, providing insights to position us as the go-to solution for innovation services.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to prepare compliant, customer focused, high-quality proposals tailored to federal requirements.
  • Support adherence to the Growth process by leveraging the insights gained regarding the customer or agency throughout the proposal development lifecycle, assisting leadership in refining strategies and ensuring compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and other relevant federal regulations throughout the growth lifecycle, following established guidelines and contributing to regulatory adherence with oversight from leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records in the company's CRM and provide regular progress reports to leadership.


Requirements



  • 3-5 years of experience in business development, federal sales, or a related role, with a demonstrated track record of supporting the closing of deals and delivering results in high-growth environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience with government contracting (GovCon), particularly within HHS OPDIVS, but open to other Federal Civilian agency experience.
  • Proactive, resourceful and GovCon knowledgeable.
  • Understanding of the industry standard, from opportunity identification to proposal submission.
  • Collaboration in developing and implementing capture strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Collaborative approach for securing new contracts through coordinated efforts.
  • An understanding of market research methodologies for identifying trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Collaborative skills to help shape capture strategies based on client needs.
  • Understanding collaborative approaches in the context of capture and proposal processes.
  • Coordination and leadership skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledgeable of the Shipley BD process, addressing challenges, identifying, and mitigating risks, and ensuring continuous improvement.


Compensation and Benefits

The projected base compensation range for this position is $80,900 to $116,700 per year, benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The target salary for this role is $95,100. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
