Job Description:

Under the direction of the Deputy Chancellor for the California Community Colleges, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is responsible for providing policy recommendations to the Board of Governors and Consultation Council; providing leadership and oversight for all division activities including the following: 1) curriculum chaptering and approval; 2) intersegmental coordination with CSU, UC and private 4-year institution partners; 3) a set of student equity programs (e.g., MESA, Umoja); 4) emerging programs and initiatives (e.g., Cybersecurity Collaborative, Baccalaureate Degree Program); 5) enrollment and retention initiatives (e.g., dual enrollment); and 6) innovations in teaching and learning (e.g., credit for prior learning, competency-based education). Leads strategic initiatives; coordinates state technology investments; manages funding and contracts; leads policy and regulation analysis, revision & development; facilitates data & research design & implementation; oversees particular participatory governance committees and practices; directs professional development and technical assistance; creates & disseminates guidance to the field; authors reports and handbooks for the system, the legislature, the Board of Governors & funders; leads grant development and management; serves as a representative of the Board of Governors & Chancellor's Office. The Vice Chancellor works collaboratively with the Executive leadership team to advance the mission and vision of the office.

The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on the Chancellor's Office's evolving telework policy. The Chancellor's Office supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to the headquarters office in Sacramento if an urgent need arises.

Working Conditions

Ability to make frequent public presentations, both in person and virtually.

Ability to supervise the work of others in a hybrid work setting.

Periodic public speaking/presentations are required.

Ability to effectively telework within the state of CA.

  1. Knowledge and experience with California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Academic Affairs Programs.
  2. Knowledge and experience with online education, technology applications, and integrated approaches in the delivery of academic instruction and support focused on student outcomes and student success.
  3. Knowledge and experience with community college finance, specifically related to academic affairs budgeting, resource allocation, and revenue generation to enhance and sustain high impact academic and instructional support programs.
  4. Experience at increasingly responsible levels in the areas of academic affairs, including supervising, managing, and evaluating administrators, faculty, and staff.
  5. Examples of your ability and experience in strategic planning and using performance measures to achieve operational and strategic goals.
  6. Experience in partnership development, constituency management and navigating complex organizations.
