The expected hiring range for this position is:

$15.00-$22.50.

About the role:

Fermilab's Infrastructure Services Division looking for a Seasonal High Voltage Electrical Engineer who is interested in gaining knowledge and experience in High Voltage Engineering and power delivery from Transmission level (345KV) to Distribution level (13.8KV) to Industrial building level (480V/3-phase). This position will entail both office computer work, as well as field work on Fermilab's 6,800 acres, exploring and documenting current site equipment.

This is a seasonal position and is not eligible for relocation assistance, referral bonus program and sponsorship assistance.

What your day-to-day as a Seasonal High Voltage Electrical Engineer at Fermilab will look like:

  • Document current protection relay and circuit breaker settings throughout the site.
  • Update GIS and add generator layer to GIS to include physical generator pictures, settings, equipment details. Create and apply labels for all generator equipment.
  • Map power distribution cable routing throughout the site and create/update drawings as necessary.
  • Produce label plates and identify stickers for field equipment as needed.
  • Update Preventive Maintenance system using FAMIS software.
  • Document Preventive Maintenance results.
  • Participate in Arc Flash Study throughout the site
  • Create and apply Arc Flash labels as directed
  • Update building single line electrical drawings down to at least the PHP panel level.
  • Convert current High Voltage procedure drawings from current Word format to AutoCAD
  • Review version control for MSS software and ensure it is up to date with the latest
  • Review fault locate equipment and prepare a presentation on current state of the art equipment.
  • Catalog and review current HV equipment calibration status
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by reporting manager
  • Abide by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • A candidate who is over the age of 18, has a high school diploma or equivalent and is currently enrolled in a college
  • Must have a Driver's license and the ability to drive a provided vehicle to work different locations on the Fermilab site.
  • Must have intermediate AutoCAD skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of GIS software and SEL Accelerator

Physical Activity and Work Conditions Human Factors

  • Work will consist of a variety of weather conditions such as heat, sun, rain and wind
  • Willingness to work in outdoor environment/elements.
  • Ability to climb steps, traverse uneven ground and climb ladders
  • Ability to use basic hand tools.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
