Pest Controller I

Description

Detects pest infestations in schools, centers, administrative building, or shops; treats structures, buildings, and grounds to prevent or exterminate insects and rodents.

Qualifications

Required

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
  • One (1) year of experience in commercial pest control and extermination.
  • Possession of a valid 7A (General Pest Certification) and 7B (Wood destroying Pest Certification) from the state of Virginia.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid motor vehicle operator's license with a good driving record.
  • May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
  • Knowledge of the prevention, elimination, and control of household pests and pests that are harmful to building structures, stored materials, and vegetation.
  • Knowledge of the habits, physical characteristics, hiding areas, and food sources of a wide variety of pests.
  • Knowledge of insecticides and their toxicity.
  • Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Skill in recognizing conditions conducive to pest infestation, detecting concealed infestations, and selecting equipment, materials, and methods for specific conditions and results desired.
  • Ability to perform the work from planning to completion stages and provide complete coverage without danger to people and domestic or laboratory animals.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers' manuals.
  • Ability to estimate time and material needs, determine when the repair is not economically practical, and perform routine clerical tasks and arithmetical computations.
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
Preferred
  • Completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program.

$48,693 - $82,194
