Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time professional experience working in communications, marketing, public relations, higher education or related experience (student experience may be considered). Understanding of effective graphic design, branding principles, and/or marketing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience with leadership/advising of college students. Experience working in communications, marketing or public relations. Experience with video production and/or interactive media. Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud or similar design suite. Experience developing social media content in a professional setting. Supervisory experience (supervision of students may be considered).

Brief Description of Duties:
The successful candidate will have passion for college student development and demonstrated success in a multi-tasking, high volume, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and bring an aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new tools for digital content and social media marketing. Incumbent must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercise strong organizational and time-management skills and have exceptional attention to detail. The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will have creative, front-line communications and marketing for the Career Center, including career programming, job/internship fairs, employer and alumni career activities. They will provide supervision and mentoring to student paraprofessionals. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently, as well as part of a team, with a collaborative approach to problem solving. This position co-reports to the Student Affairs Executive Director of Marketing and Communications and Career Center Senior Director of Operations.

Communications/Marketing



  • Working with a team of 5-8 interns to support marketing /outreach. Assist in the development of social media strategy in collaboration with the intern team. Assist in the development and production of online, print, web, and video content. Generate marketing material/collateral. Ensure content of the Center's website is up to date; write new content, edit existing content within CMS. Generate activity reports to analyze marketing effectiveness.


Internship Supervision



  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise undergraduate and graduate marketing, graphics, and communications interns. Liaise with faculty sponsors to ensure student achievement of learning objectives.


Project Support



  • Assist in disseminating internal communications with key messages and talking points. Develop cooperative relationships within the Stony Brook community and externally to identify opportunities that advance major career development & experiential education news and accomplishments. Participate in College and University-wide initiatives to enhance Career Center visibility and awareness throughout the University and beyond.


Professional Development and Committee Involvement



  • Participates in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
  • Contributes to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, and programs).
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
  • Evening and weekend work will be required at times.


Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
