What You'll Do

The position is responsible for establishing planning and scheduling requirements, processes, and practices for the project in line with corporate procedures and customer requirements. The Lead Planner provides coaching and technical guidance to the Planning team on a wide range of Planning and Project Controls topics, establishing an innovative and rewarding team environment that delivers a compliant, functional, and integrated plans that support project execution. The Lead Planner also plays a hands-on role in developing solutions to complex technical and project execution challenges, assuring schedule accuracy and reliability (both in meetings and through schedule health analytics), and analysis of the forecast schedule needed to deliver value in the project execution management and decision-making process.

Principle Responsibilities:



  • Collaborates with Project Controls Management and Project Teams to develop and establish the general schedule philosophy for the projects and implementing that philosophy through preparation and issuance of clear procedures, desktop instructions, and guidance communication to all levels of the Projects team(s)
  • Assures compliance with contractual and corporate schedule requirements, including those elements related to the project's Earned Value Management System
  • Provides supervision, coaching, mentoring and training to the planning team in the development and integration of portions of the schedule into the project's integrated master schedule, including regular schedule status and maintenance activities
  • Maintains configuration control of the baseline schedule, and supports the baseline change control process
  • Works with all levels of management across all departments to ensure understanding of schedule interactions and dependencies. Identifies schedule considerations and problems resulting from interdisciplinary or group restraints and interfaces
  • Oversees the production of all scheduling and coordinationrelated reporting for the project, including: Integration of Engineering, Procurement, Subcontracts, Construction andStart-up
  • Oversees the operations work scope into the total project plan,the performance of schedule risk analysis for establishment of schedule margin requirements in the baseline, and theunderstanding of schedule risk exposure in the forecast using a combination of management judgment and results from Monte Carlo risk analysis software such as Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA) or Acumen Risk.
  • Establishes and documents the project's schedule requirements/database settings by implementingand administeringcritical action itemreviews across all projects and organizations

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum 7 years of relevant experience.

    • Fifteen years of relevant education, progressiveexperience/training may be used in lieu of a degree.



Preferred Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with:

    • Developing and maintaining schedules using Primavera P6 software
    • DOE or other government related EPC project principles and procedures related to scheduling
    • Project Controls general technical skills
    • Establishing schedule requirements and developing procedures or guidance documents


  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with:

    • Performing Monte Carlo Schedule Risk Analysis using standard industry software tools
    • Office and other standard industry productivity software tools
    • Supervision, personnel administration, and training of technical and nontechnical personnel
    • Project management practices used in the major construction industry
    • Engineering, procurement, construction, startup, and contract management work processes


  • Skilled in oral and written communication
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team to meet project requirements
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent project requests and/or changing priorities
  • Primavera P6 database setup and administration experience on major Engineering, Procurement, and Construction projects
  • Experience in cross project coordination
  • Knowledge of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction productivity and unit rate reporting / analysis
  • Experience in multiple Project Controls roles and disciplines or other functions

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
