Position Highlights The laboratory of Dr. Yanqiao Zhang in the College of Medicine-Phoenix is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Professional I. The laboratories are in the newly renovated Biomedical Science Partnership Building (BSPB) in the downtown of Phoenix along with new equipment and friendly crews.

Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team within the setting of an outstanding new facility. The position is part of a well-funded research program and will provide the opportunity to produce high-impact publications and establish a record of grant award funding. Enthusiastic applicants with experience in Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Chemistry are encouraged to apply. Experience in molecular cloning, liver and metabolic research, and atherosclerosis is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Under supervision assist with developing, planning, designing, and conducting advanced research, review progress and evaluate results.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining unique mouse models. This includes echocardiography and tissue Doppler, vasodilation ex vivo and in vivo, myocardial infarction, and hindlimb ischemic surgery.
  • Maintain clear, detailed laboratory notebooks with experimental procedures, calculations, and data. Prepares data for computer input and record computer output.
  • Assist with compiling data and generating computerized statistical data for analytical purposes using software packages.
  • Refine, adapt, and develop procedures or techniques to fit specific experiment requirements, modify existing equipment or designs and fabricate requisite equipment.
  • Recommend improvements and new protocols and procedures as needed.
  • Assist students and staff in the operation of equipment and/or in the performance of technical procedures.
  • Assist with ensuring regulatory compliance of the research program.
  • Maintain detailed records of controlled substances used in the laboratory, package waste material, and arrange for disposal according to established procedures.
  • Contribute to deriving, analyzing, and formatting data for publications, presentations, and grant proposals.
  • Assist with the acquisition of research funding.
  • Participate in presenting research findings at conferences, and contribute to national meeting presentations.
  • Assist with manuscript preparation for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Clean, sterilize, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair equipment, machinery and instruments used for research.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory safety, including biohazard materials and chemical waste.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies, logs, and record books, troubleshoot and resolve problems, and help with special projects.
  • Keep laboratory supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Oversee maintenance of glassware by picking-up, cleaning, sterilizing, and distributing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Chemistry.

* Master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Chemistry, or related field of study.

* Previous specialized experience in laboratory management and/or biomedical experiment is preferred.

* Mouse coronary arteriole isolation and vasodilation (DMT).

* Electrophysiological experiment skills.

* Echocardiography and endotracheal intubation in rodents.

* Experience in molecular cloning, liver and metabolic research, and atherosclerosis is preferred.
