Our multidisciplinary breast program at the Piper Breast Center, located in either Minneapolis or the Northwest region, offers you:

* On-site breast radiology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology.

* Dedicated breast-specific nurse navigation and clinical nursing.

* Comprehensive breast-specific tumor boards.

* Use of Epic one of the nation's most comprehensive electronic health record systems.

* Own service rounding, no general surgery call.

Job Description:

Responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with cancer through surgical procedures and other therapies. This role requires a deep understanding of oncology, surgical techniques, and patient care, with a strong emphasis on delivering compassionate and comprehensive treatment plans.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care for surgical oncology patients including preoperative, surgical procedures and postoperative care
    • Reviews patient's medical history, diagnostic tests, and Imaging while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
    • Evaluates, interprets, and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care.
    • Performs surgical procedures to remove tumors or cancerous tissue, ensuring precise and effective techniques to minimize patient risk and maximize outcomes.
    • Provides pre-operative and post-operative care, including detailed consultation or intervention (treatment plan) to patients and families, follow-up visits, and ongoing monitoring of recovery and treatment progress.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well being.
    • Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy and legal responsibilities.
    • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management.
  • Continuous Improvement and Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to all regulatory and accreditation standards, maintaining the highest level of patient safety and quality of care.
    • May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
    • Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or workflows.
    • Stay current with advancements in surgical oncology, including new techniques, technologies, and research findings, and incorporate these advancements into practice.
  • May participate in on-call rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine
  • Board certified in general surgery required.
  • Completion of a breast fellowship or surgical oncology fellowship required.
  • Surgical oncology experience, including: melanoma, retroperitoneal sarcoma, hepatic, pancreatic, biliary, and upper and lower GI surgery, endocrine surgery, and peritoneal and advanced malignancy.
  • Experience with minimally invasive and open surgical procedures

Licenses/Certifications

  • Board Eligible/Board Certified with American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association required
  • Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 3 - Multisource required within 180 Days
  • Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certificate required upon hire
  • Prescription Monitoring Program required upon hire
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required upon hire

Physical Demands

Pay Range

Pay Range: $425,000 to $500,000 per year The pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable).
